This should come with the camera!I nearly returned my Leica until I bought this book. Really the included manual is inconvenient and not always helpful.I'm not a fan of digital cameras, I prefer to have control over camera functions without hunting through layers of menus. This is my first real camera in a long while. I've always wanted a Leica and it does offer a fair amount of manual controls, but is still digital with it's overkill of menu driven options.The last "real" cameras I had were film SLR's which I miss with all my heart. I guess I got tired of carrying tons of camera equipment. But ironically a film camera is now too expensive to afford. I miss the days when a 'through the view finder' light meter and a nice focusing screen were a big deal. I could always get amazing photos without so many bells and whistles.Photoshop and digital cameras are amazing tools, toys, but I miss the simplicity of SLR's and nice filter. I remember sending my film off to B&H Photo (who I bought this camera from) in a tyvek envelope and getting my developed film back in the mail. Nothing matches the excitement of having to WAIT for your photos to be processed!My late father used Kodachrome, which nearly 60 years later retains it's color amazingly well.But thank for helping me to learn the features of this camera without banging my head against the wall...good book!

I've often been skeptical regarding camera guides. Most are rehashes of the camera manual with better writing, but not much useful explanation of how various settings work, or why/how you would use them. This book is the rare exception.It's well written with a logical layout. In matter of a few hours reading with the camera nearby, I came away a better understanding and appreciation for what this camera can do!I'm not new, by any means, to digital photography or photography in general, having owned Nikon dSlrs, and using Fuji's current X system cameras and lenses.Let's face it! You just spent all this money for this camera. Invest another $25 for this book. You won't regret it, and I'm sure that like me, you'll be referring back to it for information#

I have a later model. How ever the information in this book made it much easier to understand my camera. This is a great review book, and I reccmmend it.

The book is delivered to a friend who is living in Canada. I don't know the contents. However my friend is very appreciated.

The author provides the rationale for the various settings in addition to their description. Also provides insight into his preferences and why. Do wish he'd add a summary paragraph on back button focusing, which the camera is quite capable of. He describes how to set it up across several settings, but never calls it that or summarizes it. Other than that omission, nicely done.

Easy to use, very informative. It’s obvious the writer knows a lot about the camera and how to use it. I appreciate the camera much more now; he makes it come alive in my hands.

Highly recommend, the writer is very thorough and clear in his instructions. It's easy to pick up a camera like the 109 and start shooting on auto, without ever really understanding the deeper functions or how to shoot in special conditions. Excellent manual.

Being a Leica D-Lux 109 owner I feel compelled to recommend this guide. I struggled with the Leica supplied manual that proved to be a frustrating nightmare which rendered the camera useless.This guide by Mr. White is brilliant. It is detail, comprehensive and simple to use. Well worth the cost.

I actually own the Leica D-lux 7 rather than the Typ 109 (Mr White doesn't seem to have yet written a guide specifically for the D-lux 7) but the two cameras are similar enough for this Guide to be extremely useful.I started out using film cameras many years ago, so whilst I am no newcomer to photography, and much as I love the D-lux camera and the Leica brand, even I have to admit that both the supplied owner manual and the online version leave much to be desired by way of guidance.Digital cameras are equally as much to do with on-board menus and programmable settings as they are to do with apertures and shutter speeds. For example, altering one menu setting may disable or alter subsequent options in another sub-menu.Often, the Leica manual merely mentions a menu item without explaining it's effect or relevance. This Photographer's Guide really comes into it's own by informing the reader what each setting does, where it's use might be relevant and advising of any knock-on effect that selecting or changing the feature might have. The text is very well supported by photographs to illustrate each topic.The Guide is presented in an easily readable and informative way, without being simplistic or patronising, and avoids getting bogged down in mystifying technical jargon.Clearly written BY a photographer FOR a photographer.Regardless of your experience, film or digital, Typ 109 or D-lux 7, this Photographer's Guide will help you to operate these powerful compact cameras to their full potential.Full marks to the author for such a well written and well illustrated book.

This book is very helpful in getting to know the camera. The menus and features are explained in detail along with the author’s suggestions and tips. A useful guide to refer to from time to time.
