Extremely well written. The author should be congratulated.
The best way to learn this software is to use it. The author very carefully takes you through the individual keystrokes required for variable and data entry. There are multiple completed data sets available from the associated website or from the IBM SPSS website which are both easy to download. It takes 1-2 hours to complete each of the 26 chapters. There are 5 excercises at the end of each chapter. The first three have the answers with tables nicely provided. The excercises are well thought out and not too difficult. The fourth and fifth are answered at the associated website but are only available to teachers. The statistical methods taught are at a beginning to intermediate level. The authors explanations are brief and lucid. If you are either a home learner or taking a beginning statistics class and required to learn SPSS this text should be very helpful. The standard Grad Pack for SPSS version 27 is available to students and faculty and is reasonably priced. The version with regression software should be ordered. I would encourage IBM to offer a home version for self learners who do not fall in those two categories. Fortunately I am on faculty at a medical school. I would like to thank the author for his efforts in producing such a nice text.

Great reference
As a graduate student in business analytics, one of my biggest challenges has been learning the fifty million different tools I need for every situation. Tableau, Power BI, SAS, SPSS, Matlab, Minitab, JMP...that's just the past two semesters and I'm probably leaving some out! Just navigating the menus and trying to remember how to get to things can be a struggle, so it's great to have a reference guide with pictures to refresh my memory. Do note this book only covers through intermediate stats, there is no coverage of advanced/multivariate stats (well, that would probably double the size of the book, ha!). This is a good book for inexperienced users and a handy refresher as well.

Interesting and educational technical training guide
This book seems to be part of a formal training course and the companion website contains quizzes and classroom aids rather than a functioning test environment. The IBM product that is the focus of this training guide is oriented for people working in statistics or at least have a fair amount of knowledge or experience with statistical analysis.I was hoping this training guide "Using IBM® SPSS® Statistics: An Interactive Hands-On Approach" would either come with software or at least link to an online training environment or a downloadable trial copy of the software, but alas such was not to be. I had passing familiarity with IBM's SPSS product when I selected this book, so I can understand much of the gist of what the book is teaching but the premise of a "hands on approach" is difficult to achieve without direct access to the actual software. For anyone who can get access to the program, this book could be an excellent training guide, but without access you can only gain a limited understanding of the available functionality.

Good refresher
At the risk of aging myself, it's been quite a few years since I've used SAS or SPSS. Once upon a time I'd probably fall under the category of advanced user especially during phd studies but over time, used it less and less. Although the fundamentals remain the same, the specifics look different which is where this comes in....nice quick refresh. Easy to follow, clear and concise. Solid refresh or general go to for new users.

Excellent resource
I use SPSS in my work and I teach research methods, so I am always on the lookout for good resources for reference and potential textbooks for my students. This book is excellent. It gives great explanations of both what the statistics indicate as well as how to do this in SPSS. I find the examples particularly helpful to walk through a scenario, understand how to identify variables, how to select a statistical test, run it in SPSS, and analyze the output. This is a wonderful resource that I now have on my desk all the time.

Just nails it!
Dr. Aldrich has made my life easier. This text on SPSS really nails everything I needed to know when working with SPSS. It is thorough, comprehensive, well-organized and extremely efficient in presenting the material. Well done!
