What do I need to get started with Silhouette Cameo?

Depends on what you're using it for. This item is for the PixScan mat which you need the Silhouette machine to use. But the Actual silhouette cameo 4 comes with everything you need to use it as a cutter. But you still need materials to cut. I personally use mine for sticker making. Print and cut the stickers and it comes out flawless every time.

Yes! It's awesome. I just bought the Cameo 3 and this was my next purchase and have used it numerous times.

Does this mat replace the need for registration marks that often do not work for non-Silhouette graphics?

Yes, The mat itself comes with registration marks and a 8.5x11.5 sticky area to place your materials.

I just biught the cameo 3. I want to do simple paper flower designs and right now i want to make a unicorn backdrop. What tools would i need?

Just the machine, a regular mat, and the files if it's a & cut. This mat is only needed if you have something that's already printer but doesn't have registration marks on the page.
