An excellent mechanical keyboard with no key chatter
I purchased the DasKeyboard Root after struggling for over a year with a Logitech G613 wireless mechanical keyboard. I'm not a gamer, but I do spend a lot of time writing and have always loved the experience of typing on mechanical switches. For some reason, the G613 experience MASSIVE amounts of key chatter (i.e., pressing a key once yet having it register 2 or 3 times). After a year of deteriorating key chatter, I knew I needed a change. I did a lot of research and decided to purchase a DasKeyboard with blue clicky switches. I'm extremely happy! The keyboard is functioning perfectly and the keys register a crisp, satisfying "click" with every press. I haven't had a single instance of key chatter and the keyboard works perfectly out of the box with Windows 10.Unlike most mechanical keyboards, this isn't aimed toward the gamer market. It's well-designed, attractive in a conservative/business aesthetic, and does its job flawlessly. That's enough to earn 5 stars in my book!

A tale of two keyboards.
I see that I can't write separate reviews for the Das Keyboard 4 Professional and the 4Q so I'll put them both here.I've had a DK 4 for several years at work for several years and it's a workhorse. When we shut down the office in 2020 and started working remotely I missed it right away. I decided to buy one for my home office. My workspace at home doesn't have the best lighting so I bought a DK 4Q, thinking the RGB backlight would help my old, tired eyes. The 4Q ended up having a few shortcomings that made it just not right for me. It's very well made. A tank, just like the DK 4 Professional. It's got good mass and the volume knob and basic multimedia controls are just enough. As I mentioned, there were some shortcoming though. It requires 2 USB plugs and the cable is quite thick. I would like to see them update the design with a removable (single) USB type C connector to run the keyboard, the backlighting, and the usb hub. Speaking of the hub, the 4Q's is only USB 2.0, not 3.0 like the 4 Professional. It feels like a step down. The per key RGB lighting is nice, allowing you to do just about whatever you want. The main legends on the keys are very bright BUT the secondaries -- the ~!@#$%^&*() seem very dim. I tried adjusting the brightness but it really didn't help. It's visible in a dark room but when the monitor is on its light washes it out. I'm not sure if it's because of the LED position on the switches, the keycaps, or a combination of both. The Q software honestly seems kind of clunky and I felt the idea of the applets for notifications on the keyboard to be kind of gimmicky and silly. Maybe I'm completely off base but the idea that keys changing color is going to notify me of system events seemed silly. It would take me longer to remember what an F1 key blinking red or a chartreuse E means. Plus, I don't spend that much time looking at the keys to begin with. Most of the time my eyeballs are watching the monitor -- which is much more adept at giving me information. I decided the 4Q just wasn't for me. Build wise I'd give it give stars *****, but for usability three ***.I ended up exchanging it for a 4 Professional, like the one I have at work. Although it too does have a couple flaws I find it to be a top notch keyboard. Like the 4Q I do wish they'd give it a removable cable. Either usb3 or type-C. As I mentioned my home office is a bit on the dark side. The gray on black keys on the DK 4 Pro are great in good light but did give me some problems when things weren't as bright. I ended up buying a set of lighter colored low profile replacement key caps and some rubber O rings to go under them and I feel like I've got the best keyboard EVER! My DK4 now gets 5 stars all across! *****

Buenas teclas y controles por
La resouey de las teclas es muy buena. Todos los controles sirven sin problema, solo tuve que instalarme un software para volver a mappear las F keys.Algo caro por ser se Mac pero lo recomiendo

It takes getting used to, but it's worth it
I didn't expect that a keyboard would make me want to go back to the time in my life where writing papers was a part of my day, but here we are. I'm almost looking for homework. That's why I'm typing this review.Build: The keyboard has its pros. It's solid. It doesn't feel chintzy and the dials, switches, and keys all function right out the gate. There is definitely no problem with the build quality on this particular keyboard.Layout: standard. Need the numpad. Honestly you can't go wrong with a numpad. Just open your calculator and see.Switches: The cherry mx brown are technically tactile, but truth be told I don't see, or more appropriately, feel, much of what this actually means. However, as far as typing experience is concerned, it is a devilishly comfortable and pleasant keyboard to type on. Literally the only reason I'm reviewing this keyboard is that I love typing on it, and I need something to do. NOTE: The cherry mx brown switches are apparently less clicky than the blues. Take it from me, unless you have a fetish for things that click exceptionally loud or really hate your roommates/spouse/wife/dogs/neighbor, the brown keys are all you really need. These keys are still loud enough, and satisfying enough to click, that it makes you feel like you're typing on the Fallout hacking console. The sound is just gravy on a heap of delicious mashed potatoes. But not like, too much gravy, just the right amount. Brown. Like gravy.Function: I had a problem with my keyboard not working when my PC went to sleep, and then woke up. Das Keyboard's support personal directed me to the firmware update for the keyboard within 24 hours. That seemed to do the trick.Extras: This keyboard has minimal extras. A very classy volume wheel with a red ring, and a few media controls are all you get. That's literally, however, all that is needed for a keyboard. I mean, sure other keyboards can do party tricks with backlit LEDs, but seriously... who is that going to impress? And how often are you going to use it? And more importantly, WHY would you use it? That being said, this kb does have one thing that is extraneous: a ruler that doubles as a riser. People complain about the ruler coming off. It hasn't happened to me yet but if it does, I'll prob use tape or something to stick it there.Value: Maybe spendy; but not that spendy compared to others on the market. And for the CLEAN appearance, the premium is worth it.Ethos: Remember, the quality of the items you use daily will always feel cheap if the part that you handle feels cheap. That is to stay; upgrading the peripherals to your computer is a worthy expense. There's a reason a Cadillac feels nicer than a Chevy. It has everything to do with the things you touch.
