This is a fairly quick read coming in at 155 pages and slightly larger than normal font and spacing. Still Blade manages to kick the series off well.While this is a young reader book, there are a few instances of extreme violence and death.The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars was that, while the story itself is enjoyable, it didn't have enough of a strong grab for me.

I chose a five star rating because it got me wondering how far Derthsin had actually gotten to destroying or ruling the kingdom. There is definitely something fishy going on between Geffen and Derthsin. I wonder if they're related in some way. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who favors the Beast Quest series. You will NEVER EVER read another book like this one. The only books that are like this one are the rest of the books in this series. Go read another Chronicles of Avantia book and may the beasts be with you!

This was an easy read and entertaining. It would be really great for young readers. I am a Grandma and I enjoyed it very much. Two thumbs up!

This book is one of the best books I have read. I really enjoyed reading about all of the war in this book. I felt sorry for tanner because all of his family was taken from him . I can't wait to read the next book.

My son loves Beast Quest, now being a good reader himself I stumbled across this series. This is a prequel to Beast Quest but it is much more violent and definitely for an older age group. I offered him some money for every book he completed (anything to get him off the PlayStation and iPad, right). Exceeding my expectations he read the first 2 book within 2 days, and is in the process reading the 3rd.The book starts with an evil wizard leading a army to massacre a peaceful village. The wizard Derthsin is finally defeated, but his legacy lives on. Now years later a new brutal warlord has come to finish what Derthsin started, with his only vicious warriors, and other surprises Gor is cutting a bloody slash across Avantia. Now the Legondary beasts of Avantia pair with their chosen riders must stop this new threat. Great adventure, but extremely brutal, it might be an idea to read it through before giving it you younger kids.

It's was amazing best book I've ever read pure genius amazing story line shame that the others are not on kindle yet.
