It's wax. As a kid I'd use it to prevent irritation in my mouth from braces. As an adult I use it for irritations in my mouth cause by a partial. This wax works just as good as any other I've tried. It has a chocolate scent but I didn't notice any flavor. Works well. No complaints here.
