Age of Empires 2: Gold Edition

This is an awesome game that continues to provide days and weeks of entertainment. Downside is that for Apple later OSX are not supported... Graphics are still a little clunky but tech and units/gameplay easily make up for that. If you can find it and support it with Apple OSX then buy it.

I purchased this product to play on my iMac, running OSX Snow Leopard. The game crashes every few minutes. I researched updates for this product and found that I have the most up to date version of the game. Due to the very frequent crashes the game is unplayable. I really like Age of Empires II. I like it better than III, but it will not work. I spent a lot of money for a game that is unplayable. If you are running Snow Leopard, or Lion as my research indicates, do not buy this game, as it will not play properly. My pre-purchase research indicated that Update 1.0.5 had fixed the crash issues. And, that this update would allow play for a machine running Snow Leopard. In fact, the game I bought is version 1.0.6, and will not play. I bought a very expensive paperweight. Disappointing!!

It stated that the CD case was cracked which I was ok with but the CD itself was scratched which I'm completely dissatisfied with. It is completely worthless and I want my money back!!

I bought this game after purchasing an iBook with the intention of playing against all of my friends. While the game play holds true to the original game in single player, you CAN NOT play against your PC friends for the "forseeable future" for that reason I can not give the game a 5 star review...

As simple as that. I've been playing this game for ages. Ever since the beginning of the first age of empires and the rise of Rome, I've been following this game. It's given me, my family & friends endless hours of entertainment. I've also played other "age of...." games, but none seem to pair up with this one. It's basically all the same idea. You start with low resources and a few villagers, and have to build from there & fight your opponent. You can follow the campaigns or play multiplayer against each other, or teamed up against the computer. You can also play deathmatch if you prefer. You get to pick a civilization, and each one has its own unique characteristic and feature. From the Huns to the Greeks, Spanish, Aztecs, Britons...and a whole bunch more! The game has already been out for a while, and still is better in my opinion than the newer "age of..." games. I've tried newer ones but cannot pair up with this one. I recently bought a Mac, and this game shortly after it, only to be dissapointed that I could no longer play with my brother in multiplayer mode using a PC. Other than that, there are no other flaws to the game, and it plays as well as the PC version. I rate it 4 stars instead of 5 just because of that, multiplayer between Mac and PC is not possible. Here's my honest recommendations: If you like to play, if you like adventure, strategy, then give this game a try if you haven't already. You'll enjoy every minute of it and won't get bored of playing.

Age of empires is the ultimate strategy game. I couldn't tell you how many hours I've spent building cities and conquering other civilizations. It's probably one of the greatest games I've ever played. Yes, it is THAT awesome. I never get tired of it. I don't know what it is. Maybe the appeal of building an empire and starting a war, while keeping your economy running. I don't know what else to say. If you love strategy and games based on history and warfare, you gotta get Age of Empires. Period. You won't regret it !!!

This game was a favorite of mine for many years on Microsoft Windows OS. Looked forward to playing it on my Mac. But it will not work on the Lion OS. Very disappointed that this was not on the description of the game when I ordered it and had to return it for a refund.
