Neon Genesis Evangelion 3-in-1 Edition, Vol. 1: Includes vols. 1, 2 & 3 Kindle & comiXology

I finished rewatching Evangelion not that long ago and I wanted to see how the story was different and how things played out in the manga so I decided to buy the whole series. I know I could have just read it online for free but you see, I’m a physical copy kind of guy AND I’m bad at spending money. That’s why I’m here but back to the subject matter. The mangas came in on time. No damage on them and I read them within a span of a week or two (cause a guy can get busy) overall 10 out of 10 must buy if you love the series.

I really cannot comment on the content of the book but do give it a five star rating based on our oldest Granddaughter asking for it on a Christmas list she gave us.She has been a fan of these type of books for many years and she was very happy when she unwrapped this book at Christmas. So based on her continued interest in reading these type of books and encourage her interest in reading, we give it a 5 star rating.

I wanted to write this review while the annoyance is still fresh. Like many others who bought this 3-in-1, I was lured in by the price and extras. Yes, the color pages are nice, and yes, the overall quality of pages make this edition appear to have a premium quality, but the binding simply falls off with use. It's not just this one either, volume 4 fell apart the same way, but the rest of the series appears perfectly fine. As one would hope for Evangelion everything else feels premium, but the fact that Viz still hasn't found a way to fix this issue across multiple volumes is just pitiful. Avoid it until the defect is addressed.

Amazing series and the print quality was great for all the volumes, but every volume except the last one had pages coming out just from opening/closing the covers. Seems like a special case for me, but you should beware when purchasing.

first off this review isn't for the manga/story! It's so good and by far my favorite series. Maybe stay away from this edition though.... I had this volume for about 2 days before the cover fell off completely. It looks like it was a little poorly constructed, which is sad because the art and commentary it comes with is really neat.

Published by Viz, these are generously sized 3-in-1's that aestetically look amazing (even has printing across the bindings of all four vols that, when set side by side, read "Evagelion"). Some color printed pages, decent paper stock and great art printing. These books are big, thick and heavy. It's all genuine too as it was illustrated by the original artist of Eva.Just FYI: there is a 13th vol that does not match these 3-in-1's looks-wise (smaller book with matte cover instead of gloss), and a rumored 14th vol on the way.Very surprised at:The price - I tried to get the original single volume prints instead, but these 3-in-1's were SO much cheaper. It was seriously a no brainer...and glad I bought 'em.andThe story - The story remains true to the original series, yet changes enough parts to make it an interesting read if you've already seen the series/films, and a must read for fans (a must own actually, considering the amazing price. I was looking at $100+ to get all the single volumes)

I recently got into the Evangelion series after watching the first and second reboot films on Cartoon Network and became addicted! To me, this is the best way to consume your intake of Neon Genesis Evangelion, mainly because one of these volumes is cheaper (usually) than buying all three volumes on their own. I think that Sadamoto's version of the story is just as good as any portion of the show or the films. I'd have to agree with all the other reviewers who have stated that the character development and the flow of certain scenes is much better in the manga as well. I can't praise the story, characters and artwork of these manga enough. If you are a long time fan of Evangelion, or are just getting interested in the series like I am, these 3-in-1 volumes are a great jumping in point.

Contents good but the binding on this is crap.Twenty minutes outside in the sun and me reading it and the cover has irrevocably come away from the pages. I read outside a lot and this has never happened to me before.

It wasn't as interesting as I had anticipated, but the art is amazing - especially the design of the eva's (the mecha robots). The storyline seemed very simple to me - insecure 14 year old boy is expected to pilot a massive robot(...Maybe it will explain why the they have to be fourteen?) The chapters involve sexual tension or japes with the female characters, an unhealthy relationship with his father, random school scenes, and then going inside the eva and shooting an angel (the bad guys). The female pilot characters are awkwardly introduced, to be honest. The scenes would be appealing to a straight guy but when you're a girl it is just awkward to read / view, maybe even insulting, to see those characters portrayed in such a way. However, the plot seemed to improve in volume 2, which I also purchased. I suspect the story will get more interesting as the plot thickens :) Overall it is involves complex relationships and battles using the gigantic robots called Eva's. Book also includes a sound effects glossary, authors notes, background information, and anime cast interviews.

I love this edition. I'm a huge fan of the anime and always wanted to own the manga. These 3 in 1 editions have excellent paper quality. Its nice and thick and the books have a nice weight, The drawings are crisp and bold and the layout is easy to follow, There is a glossary at the back to help you understand any japanese words (such as explosions, roars and what not) and there are a few glossy colour bonus pages in there which is an excellent touch. I was so impressed I had to buy the other 3 volumes and they make a fantastic set. I just wish they would hurry up and finish the series!!!

If you don't know Evangelion - buy this and discover one of the most unique manga ever created. With regards to the omnibus - the quality is not very good. The pages can fall apart from the book quite fast. So be careful while reading. :)

I've always wanted to get into this series but never found the time till now after reading these 3 volumes I can safely say that this has been one of the best book series I have read for awhile I love the dynamic or Rei and Shinji with there mystery backstorys and family life plus the mechs are all so well designed and drawn I came here for a mecha manga but am staying for its characters and there development can't wait to read the next book!
