Melodious Double-Stops for Violin - Book 1

I bought this for a student for a little holiday present. I used this book 40 years ago and as much as I hated it, it’s a good book to throw into the practice routine. Thrilled it was still in print. Great value for money especially in this day and age!

Fantastic,progressive double stop studies that truly are melodious. I love this book for my students. My students like these etudes too since they are musical. Each one is challenging but gives a satisfying sense of accomplishment. This book is not for beginners even though it starts with drones plus a fingered string, the fingered string switches even in the first exercise.

This is MUCH better than the previous double stop book I was using. These a pretty and fun tunes to learn. Much more practical.

I have used this book for teaching double stops for years. It is a nice way for students to feel comfortable with the idea of playing more than one note in a melodious setting, rather than just encountering double stops here and there in a piece. After going through this book, students are undaunted by most double stops.

All of the exercises in this book are annoying, but in a good way. It forces you to get better at double-stops, which somehow magically improves your general intonation and tone overall. I find it very strange, but effective. I recommend it.

Have been playing the pieces on and off. I wouldn't say they are really melodious. But I can see some improvements in my intonation and bowing.
