Chana Dal

This is very tasty chatpata dal and I'll be ordering more! Please note this is not chana dal, which is plain split chickpeas. These are fried and seasoned, and quite delicious. This is a wonderful snack item with a good amount of protein, carbs, and fiber. The spices taste good and complex -- there are lots of them. Black salt (mild sulfuric taste which is actually really good), red chili, lemon, mango, onion, ginger, garlic, nutmeg, mace, clove, coriander, mint, and black pepper powders. These are fried in vegetable oil so they have a pleasant crunch. I used to be neighbors with an Indian Gujarati family for many years, and in addition to giving me lots of delicious food, they gave me a bag of chatpata dal once. I was hooked when I first tried it. This Haldiram's brand isn't extremely spicy, which I like. I enjoy all the spice flavors. I can eat a lot of these in one sitting, and I would rather watch a movie and eat these instead of popcorn. Nice treat from another part of the world.
