The Newbie's Guide to Positive Parenting Paperback – July 3, 2013

This book was a great, concise introduction to positive parenting. I have a three year old who, who usually behaves very well, but has been testing us more and more as she gets older (and deals with having a ten month old sister who wants all her toys etc). We have tried everything and when I saw this book- I had to check it out. We just started implementing a lot of the ideas from the book this week- so in 21 days (how long she says it takes to make things a habit) I hope to be able to give it the full five stars. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants an overview of the the positive parenting concept. In just a few days of using these ideas- in changing the way we interact, speak and discipline- I feel a difference in the house. I hope it will continue. :)

Was recommended this book by a friend. I agree with 90% of this book but disagree with not doing time out etc. I tried the no time out advice for one day and my 4 yr old was running rampant. It was a quick read and it did make me stop and think twice about yelling since that doesn't help anyways and also to understand that children's brains sometimes aren't mature enough the reason.

This has helped so much with my kiddos. I already incorporated most of the advice, but it reinforced it, and gave me support on days that I would "Spaz-Out". It helped me handle my unruly 6 yr old in a positive way, and he has improved in his behavior accordingly with more affection for me as his Mama. I'm not a Newbie, but ANYONE whose a parent or plans to be one, even Grandparents Need to read this amazing advice and PRACTICE IT!!

Pretty good overall. Leaves the reader wanting more but is good in that it doesn't overwhelm you with info. Definitely made me want to find out more about positive parenting. I would recommend it to anyone who like me was completely new to the theory of positive parenting.

I came across a quote from the author on Pinterest and liked it so I decided to order her book. It is very simplistic, not research based but in fairness she doesn't claim to be a "parenting expert". Just a mom with some thoughts and ideas. I couldn't find the book at the library so I ordered it. It was a quick read but good value for the price.

I enjoyed a good portion of what is presented in this book (I don't fully agree with all Attachment Parenting (AP) philosophy but I see its merits). It's warm and positive, and offers simple, practical advice to new parents and those interested in positive parenting. I will be buying her follow up book!

Super helpful book. Easy to read. Practical guidelines/tools on how to be the best parent you can be. Some of the wisdom seems unconventional at first, and sounds challenging to put into practice, but it is worth it to try, and with a little practice, it will become easier.

As a mother of 3, I found this book essential in my journey to become the best parent I can be. I was spanked as a child and I vowed to never spank my children. Positive parenting feels like the right way to change my family culture.

If like me you want to have a good relationship with your child and want to learn how to discipline without punishing this book is for you.This book gives you the basics of positive parenting, how to discipline your child in a kind and caring but firm and consistent way so that everyone is calmer and happier.It is eay to read and understand and gives examples which are easy to follow.I now feel more able to handle my 4 year old daughters tantrums ( frustation) .I also feel I have a better bond with my daughter through implementing what I have learnt in this book,and I am a lot calmer and happier as a parent . I would highly recommend it ,I am now reading 'Positive parenting in action ' which I would also recommend .

This book is really good. It's full of easy, sensible and accessible advice on how to change the way we address our children in a more positive way. I fully believe this works and will refer to this book again and again

This an approach I have been researching and implementing at home. This book is a great introduction to positive parenting and written in a very clear way... going to start my journal right now!

A great resource for parents who want to bring up their children in the kindest, most responsive and respectful way possible but at the same time provide them with guidance and good principles. I read both this book and "Positive parenting in action" by the same authors and I've already been applying some of the suggestions with great results. It's definitely my type of parenting and I'm glad there's some literature available to help!
