Great book on SW adobes
This book is wonderful. It’s extremely informative and even entertaining. We’ve learned so much about our new state (NM) and it’s unique architecture and history. It’s been a huge help in our quest to build our dream adobe. Highly recommend.

Informative and you learn a lot. Has some really great illustrations. Has a number of plans in the book for you to take ideas from. Doesn't leave much room for those who want to plan their own. But over all is very informative and helpful and they also list a number of resources. In conjunction with other adobe books you can't go wrong. I'd recommend it.

good information
bought this book to start looking into building my own house! Great for that use. The plans in it are not enginered so you cant use the plans to actually build the house. That was the only drawback in the book.

basic book
This book will give you some ideas about construction and history of the design gender, but very little on real information on floor plans. Still a good book for basic information to get you started,

Adobe Houses for Today
Adobe Houses for Today is a concise discussion of building with adobe. All the house plans are well thought out and enable a core house to be built first. While living in the core house, you can build on additional rooms without making structural changes to the core house. The homes appeal to a variety of builders from southwest flat roof styles to homes with gable roofs. Excellent resource.

Perfect introduction to building with adobe
It seems to cover everything, even things you [I] hadn't thought about. It covers construction, design, layout, style, energy saving, environmental costs, maintenance and a whole of other things [like the depth of roof over-hangs so that you get the winter light but not the summer heat...]. There are lots of pictures of real houses illustrating the text along side clear ink drawings and some 3D models. There is even a bit of history of adobe building to let you think about what others have done.As a place to start planing/dreaming an adobe building I think this book is perfect. You may still need an architect to make it happen but at least you will have a reasonable idea of what you want and how to make it happen.
