Pieces are heavier than the usual cheap plastic ones. The vinyl board is very nice to play on, as it is easily stored and has a large enough play area so as not to feel like the board is cluttered when playing on it. It is difficult to see in the photo, but the ranks and files are numbered and lettered for both the black and white players, which is handy when playing games that you would like to record. The pieces are solid, and have fallen off the table at the players' fault with no damage plenty of times. The board is not easily damaged, has not scratched or smudged in frequent and outdoor use. Came with an extra queen for both color, and an extra black pawn, the only reasons I can see for this are either a misplacement in the factory or intentional because black pawns are easily lost in dark areas. Nice product, very fond of playing and studying on it.

I bought this for a gifted and wonderfully thoughtful 10 year old in our Christian Vegan Chess Club where between our lessons about global animal conditions, we play chess to shift mental gears.. It had to be right, near professional and inexpensive. This meets everything I expected and more. These are the exact mats I've played on in chess clubs. The pieces are heavy enough for children. If you can afford double the price, as in 35 or more, then do get the triple weighted pierces...why not. But this set is WONDERFUL. DO NOT LISTEN to those who talk about a harsh chemical odor. There is the faint smell of vinyl, but ALL vinyl smells faintly like, yup - vinyl. It's slight and goes away but even right out of the box - IT WAS NO SIGNIFICANT THING AT ALL. I was afraid from other descriptions of not just this but most of the vinyl boards. People find something to complain about in a land of plenty, so ignore them. I looked EVERYWHERE for the best buy, something that would last and give joy a life time. For a couple bucks this chess set is a FANTASTIC buy. So buy it :-)

The set arrived on time. The only issue was with one of the pawns that has a small chip. It is not a big issue and not worth returning the whole set because fo that. OIher than that it was was I expected.

This is the best introduction board to real chess. Tournament and blitz. However for 50 more dollars you can buy the best set in the world. Depends on your budget. Women and children would not tell the difference.

This chess set has oversized pieces and a large board with coordinate numbers for recording your moves. Has a nice carrying bag and spare queens in the set ….. very good quality

I love this. I bought this for my home and to have a pack and go set that is easy to use. The pieces are sturdy without being stone or overly heavy. The board is easy on the eyes. It rolls up without creasing and unrolls perfectly flat. Spill wine or coffee on it? It wipes clean. I know from experience. It includes an extra queen per color. No more hijacking a mismatched piece from another board or using a quarter. That is, unless you manage to get two pawns down without losing your native queen. I was pleased so much with this that I have given these to others already as gifts. It is better than I used in high school (we used laminated paper boards), so this is a thrill. A fantastic set that really does a fine job for chess clubs where price is an issue and a measure of quality is still desired. One word of warning, this is not a set you would want for attending tournaments. The pieces are extremely light and that is how it is advertised, it's meant to be economical for purchasing a large amount of these for chess clubs. WE has a very good tripled weighted chess set with a carrying case for around 30-50$, get that one for your private use. PROS -Cheap -Rather durable -Easy to carry many sets, light (When you're carrying 10-20 sets to a club that really helps) CONS -Light pieces (Could be a con for some) -Board is thinner than most other tournament boards (I have never found this to be an issue)

Es un ajedrez muy bonito, las piezas son de un plástico de calidad y he quedado muy satisfecho. Las piezas son grandes y el tapete ni se diga, se adapta muy bien a distintos suelos. Un detalle que me gustó mucho esque viene incluida una reina extra. Lo único que me desagrado un poco fue el diseño del alfil y que no me llegó la caja como la que aparece en la imagen, sí no que las piezas y el tapete venían en una caja de cartón de las que suele usar amazon, pero fuera de eso, está excelente. Lo recomiendo ya que es muy flexible y fácil de llevar a casi cualquiera lado.

I am just getting back into chess after a life-time of doing other things. I wanted a chess set that was not too small, had some weight to it and pieces that were not too small. This set met all these considerations. The board is somewhat like rubber-plastic and seems very durable. The set comes with an extra Queen for each side. I wish it had included a small bag for the pieces, however I picked up one locally. The chess pieces are plastic, but they are filled and have felt on the bottom side. I certainly would purchase this set again.

Este producto es excelente para jugar en el parque, el café o la biblioteca, lo compre porque regrese a un club de ajedrez, el tapete es de vinyl grueso, excelente para tornero, bien dibujado y marcado. Las piezas de buen plástico tienen cierto peso en la base, para el día a día y torneos oficiales esta muy bien.

The pieces are made of nice plastic which you would find in your typical mat chess board and the mat itself has a weird vintage color to it but nothing serious, it's premium quality just like the mats in tournaments. Would have been nice to include a tube to pack the pieces and the map away when not playing, you can still use their plastic bags they've included to keep the pieces rn but the mat will have to be just put somewhere around your house.
