Porcelain Butter Dish with Lid

Perfect. Has clean lines and looks good on counter. Fits a quarter stick of butter, no mess, and fits well in refrigerator butter spot.

Super cute and made well butter dish. My husband leaves our butter out on the counter in this dish and loves it.

Nothing fancy about this butter dish which is why I like it. The white is classic and goes with any table setting. Easily holds a stick of butter (4 1/2" long by 1" high/wide/deep). I'm putting the measurements as other reviews gave me the impression that depending on where you live in the US a "stick of butter" may have different dimensions - that was news to me :-) The stick sits well within the ridges of the bottom plate and the cover is long and wide and high enough to easily cover the butter without touching it (another complaint I had read about....). The knob on the cover is a great feature as well. Great dish for the price.

It's great, it's cute -- FAR better than the recycled Ricotta cheese container we were using before. We chose this design specifically because A) it has a small, easy grab "knob" handle on the top, and B) we wanted a dish that could hold a knife, but knew we would hate the tiny rounded knife that came with a different set we were looking at. All in all, a fabulous purchase. Would make again for all the same reasons. Only reason this product does not get 5 stars is because it is a bit too short and butter gets on the inside of the lid.

I know it is crazy to write a review on a butter dish, but something so functional, simple and elegant deserves a review. This butter dish is awesome, a great size with a small lip on the base to keep the stick in place. The lid has a small knob for ease of use. It is a simple design and the perfect size for butter quarters. You will not get butter on the lid as it is large enough to allow room to set the lid in place. But not too large to be clunky. And the ceramic white complements any decor.

Why do so many covered butter dishes not have a sort of handle on top? Who knows. We have a black lab who sheds enough hair to make a guinea pig a coat on a daily basis, so keeping our butter uncovered wasn't an option. Norpro clearly knew what they were doing because this is functional, well made, and looks great. It's not exceedingly delicate like some other butter dishes that I've owned. (Although I am sure if you dropped it on tile, it would break. I just don't feel like it's going to crack from daily use.) Apparently the east and west coasts have different butter sizes, though (according to some reviews I read), so for the record, I live on the east coast and it holds our butter perfectly.

Over the years, I've come to appreciate the difficulty that often lies in making something simple, useful and inexpensive. Take this butter dish for example. I paid the same amount a year ago for a clear plastic butter dish that out of the box seemed flimsy and would likely scar and crack easily. And it did. Needing to replace it, I ordered this much sturdier, much more attractive porcelain dish that could sit well on a more formal dinner table as well as a kitchen counter for daily use. The small knob on top of the dish makes it easier to lift and replace the lid without making a mess. Other butter dishes lack such an obvious option. This can also go into a dishwasher, something my cheap plastic one could not do, making this is an easy choice. Do yourself a favor and go with this butter dish.
