KLOO's Learn to Speak Italian Language Card Games Pack 2 (Decks 3 & 4)

I have to laugh that the manufacturer recommended age is 3 years and up
I bought four decks of Kloo Learn to Speak Italian Language Card Games pack. Each deck focuses on vocabulary for a given subject. Deck 1 is for people. Deck 2 is for Eating and Drinking. Deck 3 is for Places and Deck 4 is for Everyday Objects.I have to laugh that the manufacturer recommended age is 3 years and up. I am over the age of 60 so I guess I qualify. I bought this as a family game for my grown children who are in their twenties.Every Christmas we get together and play holiday games. We do not exchange presents. Instead each of us come with a game to share with the family. This year I was sneaky. I wanted to bring something fun and yet practical. My son has just finished all his last semester for his master's degree. However before he can receive his degree he must pass a foreign language competency exam. Yikes. Languages is not his thing but he loves to play cards.By accident I found Kloo on Amazon as I was looking for games like Phase 10, which we loved. That would be another review. I thought maybe we could play games and at the same time learn a language. Personally I have always wanted to travel to Italy. My husband does not know this yet but I play on going there with him soon. I would love to be able to go to an Italian restaurant and order everything in Italian. I would love to visit the museums and have some reading skills in Italian. My son is a procrastinator. He does not have a strong ambition to study Italian through text books, but he does seem to enjoy learning to sing in Italian. Knowing he is a hands on type of guy who seems to learn best through non traditional ways I bought Kloo. I have to say I am not disappointed. I love how the cards are color coded. This enable you to not only learn vocabulary words but also form sentences. Even when you don't win the game you don't lose, as you are always learning as you play. With the arrows on the cards you are able to put the words in the proper order to form simple sentences. My son's best friend also has to take the foreign language competency exam. Together while playing cards they are painlessly studying. I am glad that I bought all four decks at one time. This increases their choices of words. I see they also make a board game to go with their language cards, but it seems they have not made one yet for Italian. I can't wait until they do. It will enhance the game for us. In the meantime we are having fun with all four decks which could be played at once or separately. It is quite a clever concept. I highly recommend buying their card games whether it be in Italian, French or Spanish. You won't regret it.

Great for people who are new or experienced in language learning!
My husband and I bought the Italian KLOO card games (two sets). It wasfun being able to play a language game with my husband, who has neverlearned another language before! The game was challenging, but not toochallenging for a beginner. Both of us were able to play together onpretty equal footing, and have fun!

It's not very useful for intermediate level
Cards are smaller than I expected and the game is simpler than I expected. It is for beginners. It's not very useful for intermediate level.

Disappointing
From the description, I expected flash cards (besides the ability to play games to learn); however, the cards that included translations of words were not the same cards that had the word when used in the games. If you formed the sentences when playing the games, you had to go through all the remaining cards in order to know what the words mean.

Fun elementary language games
I bought the first four decks of the Italian version of this game for a 6 year old first year learner of Italian. Although she has been learning for 3 terms she has done very little formal grammar learning but she is able to use these cards easily to make sentences of 5 or 6 words in length. You can follow the suggested game play or make you own rules. Although these cards are not pictorial, the recipient loves to play with them and she has spent many hours practicing amusing sentence construction then reading and translating the fruits of her labour. Each card has a colour coded clue to aid construction of sentence if you run into difficulty. For such a simple premise, these games allow a huge amount of learning in a wonderfully fun way. I cannot recommend these enough.

Good little game
Good little game, although the instructions are bit difficult to understand. There seems to be a few different ways to play and it tried to explain each, gets a bit confusing

Constructive fun that stimulate learning through play! The best way to learn!
This is an excellent game for both kids and adults! In fact it is more than a game it is a tool for learning in a challenging way! It works particularly well with competitive people! I am italian myself so I use the cards as a tool to stimulate my children to learning more words, but the game is very useful for learning the structure of sentences too. It is also good for exercising your memory and observation skills, as the more words you remember, the more likely to win the game! I would certainly recommend it to anyone who has a basic to medium level of italian knowledge.

learning made fun
I bought four decks: 1. People; 2. Eating and Drinking; 3. Places; 4. Everyday Objects. The instructions are clear and it is easy to make the game as easy or as difficult as you like. I use it on my own, to play with my partner who is a beginner, and to play in my intermediate Italian lessons with a group of friends. We get additional points for using tenses other than Present and for making compound sentences. More conjunctions would make it easier but we are managing ok. Really looking forward to Race to Rome!
