Bittersweet and Exicting Conclusion to the Alaskan Courage Series
For three years, readers had a standing invite on a journey with the McKenna family. Fictional yes, but so real is their depiction it seems as if they might be next-door neighbors or best friends. 2015 brings about the last story from the saga that started in 2012 with Submerged. This is the book readers had to wait for considering it's about the one sibling that we never really did meet.STORY: The wild child of the family, Reef rarely spends time at home during his adult years. Instead he travels and tries to fill his restlessness with casual dating and the adrenaline of extreme sports. Now he’s finally settling down and finds peace in his belief in God. But his reunion with family and childhood friend Kirra Jacobs is short. Kirra’s uncle disappears during an Iditarod musher race. Somehow it ties into a past Kirra never knew of her uncle and her cousin, Meg, is missing. To say I enjoy this series is an understatement, but then, I think most of my returning readers know this I’d gotten to “know” these characters so well and even gotten my mother addicted to the books. Reef’s character is something of an enigma throughout the four prior books. Sure he does appear here and there, but we never really know him. Reef is the “black sheep” of the McKenna family and it makes him hard to like in the way we do his siblings. He's the brother we are most concerned for. That said, I'm glad the beginning see Reef already “together.” This paints him as more of a worthy hero. I love the budding romance between him and Kirra, especially since they had been friends (sort of) for many years. Kirra’s past isn’t without pain and her progression along with their relationship is also well developed.Beyond the relationships, the excitement is not without lots of twists and turns. The first few pages alone are full of adrenaline, giving us no time to ease into things. Don’t misunderstand, this isn’t a negative. It merely pulls us in that much quicker. I like that the plot takes some different turns – one being the heroine isn't kidnapped, but cannot elaborate beyond this. If I do, guys, well you just have to read it. (As a side-note, it’s cute to see the siblings with their respective love interests as well.) If you haven’t read this series yet, it’s not essential to understand Sabotaged however I do recommend starting from the beginning. It makes the relationships, and particularly Reef’s character, all the more compelling. Plus they’re worth it.Though it’s bittersweet to wave goodbye to this family, I did enjoy every adventure with them and am eagerly awaiting Dani’s series arriving on store shelves in 2016. I’ve no doubt her signatures of faith, loyalty and family will be as much a presence of them as they were for the Alaskan Courage series.Sincere thanks to the author for providing a complimentary influencer copy of this book for reviewing purposes.

What next?
This fifth and final installment in the Alaskan Courage Series focuses on the youngest male in the McKenna family, Reef. Reef and his childhood nemesis, Kirra Jacobs, have been paired together as sweepers for the Iditarod Sled Race. Sweepers follow behind the last place entrants making sure everyone arrives at checkpoints along the route before workers/volunteers move on to the next stop. Reef has always liked to tease Kirra, beginning when they were both in kindergarten. Now that they are both adults, Reef begins to see a new side to Kirra besides the bossy girl he grew up with. As the race progresses, Kirra’s uncle fails to check in at one of the stop-off points of the race. Kirra and Reef search for him, find him, but he refuses to return with them, telling them his only daughter has been kidnapped and he must perform a job to gain her release. He tells Kirra and Reef to find his daughter or many people will be hurt. What follows is a dangerous race between Kirra and Reef, Kirra’s uncle and unknown enemies as each party tries to reach their goal.Kirra and Reef spend a great deal of time together tracking down clues to try and find Kirra’s cousin. They begin to see that there is much more to the other person than they originally thought. Reef has turned his life around now and longs to be the man God wants him to be. He really hopes Kirra can see that he has changed for the best. Kirra longs to stop being afraid and empty feeling inside. She has prayed to God for help, but can’t seem to find wholeness again. Can Reef be the person God has placed in her life to help fill the void? This is a wonderful conclusion to a great series. The book was entertaining, exciting and depicted a wonderful God-centered romance. Reef has come such a long way in the series and turned out to be a man on fire for God! I just loved the way the family openly loved and supported one another in the good times and the bad times. I sure hope this author continues to write more stories as I will readily read them!

I'm not ready to say goodbye...
Ok, I admit it, I'm in denial. This cannot be the end of the McKenna family saga. I have, over the course of five books, come to love this family and I am not ready to give them up. With each book, Dani Pettrey has continued to weave the powerful story of one family, the McKennas. Sabotaged book Five is The youngest male in the family, Reef's, story. Up to now we haven't learned much about him, other than the fact that he is a free spirit. Now he is home and is showing a very different Reef. Kirra, a friend of the McKenna family, has always sparred with Reef. He is to footloose for her taste. But Kirra has a secret of her own, and she needs someone she can count on. Why would G-d send Reef?I have found myself sitting on the edge of my chair, cheering Reef and Kira along. I have to admit that the characters in the McKenna series have come to feel like friends, someone I would love to sit down with and share a cup of coffee. Unfortunately trouble always finds the McKennas..so time to just sit and relax would probably be few and far between.I love the way everyone in the book comes to know Jesus and the way their faith grows. I am sure I will find myself re-reading these books just to visit with old friends.I was given this book by the author for reviewing purposes, but the thoughts are entirely my own.

Good adventure
There were some good adventure parts and a good amount of mystery as the crime puzzle was coming together. I enjoyed the snippets of faith interwoven. I probably would’ve given it five stars if it would have included a tad more history of the race in it.

A great read and completion of the series.
Downloaded the Kindle version as soon as it was available and read 3/4 of it that day and finished it the following day! The mixture of adventure and romance underpinned by Christian values appeals to me. Since visiting Alaska in 2013 I have become a huge fan of the area, and have actively sought out books with story lines based there. Although Yancey the home of the McKenna family is fictional, some of the action is based in real places which I could visualise so that added to my enjoyment. Have very much enjoyed the whole Alaskan Courage series and am sorry there are no further books planned in the series, however I will watch out for more books by this author.

Wonderful writing from beginning to end.
This is a book containing values that could be shared by all and would do harm to none. The only thing that spoils the series is the way the last two books were increased substantially in price for similar number of pages. This felt dishonest i.e. if you wanted to finish the five books you had to pay up which sort of did not tie inn with the ethos of the great writing

Ok but not a great book to end the series.
I love Dani Pettrey books and I’ve read this whole series however I found this one a little slower in pace. I normally devour books and have them read in couple of days but this one just didn’t have the same page turning quality to it.
