Best little farm set toy ever. I had a Fisher Price one when I was a kid but this one is even better in my opinion.

I just received the Melissa and Doug barn. I need to respond to other reviews. There were many negative reviews and many very positive reviews. Confusing. Regardless, I decided to take a chance on this item. Like one reviewer I wanted a sturdy toy like the old Fischer Price barn which my 4 year old granddaughter loves playing with at my house (and which is still great after probably 40 years!) I suspect some people received "a lemon" because the barn I have doesn't have those issues or else the manufacturer cleaned up their act! This barn is sturdy and attractive. Easy to close doors. Just one errant paint splash on one of the windows. Otherwise perfect. It is true that a small latch on the end would be good to keep it securely closed. But that is not serious. The animals I received are not "flocked" but made of a textured plastic, much like the Schleich animals to make them realistic looking, almost as well made as the Schleich. The dog is painted a little strangely but kids probably won't notice. The heads are glued on but seem to be fine. I bought some Schleich animals to fill out her barnyard. They are the right size. It's true that the workmanship is not as superb as the childraft barn but that one doesn't have moving doors , etc. I haven't given her the barn yet but I think she will love it. Amazon has a great return policy so take a chance on this item. We can't unfortunately return to those wonderful toys Fischer Price made for so long. Sigh!

I was hesitant to purchase this based on reviews of it being small and people having an issue with the fact that it doesn't latch closed. But despite that, I still wanted to see it for myself, as it looked adorable. It IS adorable. First, the size is perfect...I was pleasantly surprised by how large it was. Plenty of space for little animals and hands but still reasonably easy and light enough for a toddler to carry. And let me assure you that no latch is necessary. If you look at the picture, the barn has 2 handles...one per side (it opens/splits in half). By holding the handles, you are holding it closed. There are several sections or little cubbies/stalls inside the barn, with windows, which is cute. The barn came with 7 small animals - a dog, pig, cow, goat, sheep, horse and turkey. They aren't the top of the line animal figurines, keep in mind, but I didn't buy this for a collection. My toddlers loved them regardless. The set also provides a foldable wooden gate and ladder (for 2nd story stalls), which were so a neat touch. The barn is something special. The quality is very nice and I just adore it's simplicity. I would definitely buy it again and highly recommend. It was a gift to my 3 year old twin girls and they have spent hours playing with it already. My 1 year old also enjoys it. I only wish it came with more animals, but it's still a super toy for the price. It's really great to have simple, imaginative toys like this.

Ordered this for my son's 4th birthday. He LOVES it! It was not something he asked for, but I knew he would enjoy it. He was so surprised by this gift. He played with it for the longest time immediately after opening it and lots in the week we have owned it. My 8 year old son and 2 year old daughter also flocked to it. He loves the sliding doors on the barn. He lets all of the animals climb the ladder into the top loft sections of the barn, even the cows and horses! His favorite part is the fence. Kudos to Melissa and Doug for making a fence that folds up so sleek and stores away inside the barn. I did not realize upon ordering that the fence is in connected-pieces (instead of individual sections), but let me tell you - I appreciate that so much. It's easier for the kids to pop open and arrange it just like they want, no pieces get lost or tossed aside. The barn itself is good quality. I read some reviews that had trouble with the hinges. We have not had an issue. I do wish there was some sort of locking mechanism to keep the barn closed while carrying. We haven't had any problems with that, it just seems like it may be more securely closed if there was one. This did not keep me from giving this item 5 stars! Great toy!

This is the best quality farm playset for the money. It is well-made, durable, and super cute. My son (16 mos) loves it, and I can see it being a favorite for a while. BUT, there are a few problems with the set that are irritating given the price tag. You would think that a product titled "Fold and Go" would be something you could take with you on trips, to the doctor, etc. This is not the case, as the barn has no latch, and can swing open if you don't hold it closed. The sliding barn doors have no way to stay shut either, so your farm animals can easily go flying if you're not careful. We might try attaching metal latches to fix this problem. The animals are fairly awful--their heads are glued on with visible glue at the seams, scary! Many of our animals have warped legs, so they don't stand on their own. We plan on buying a few tubes of higher quality animals, although I certainly would have expected more from a Melissa & Doug product. So, with a couple of fixes, I do think this is a good product, and I certainly couldn't find comparable products at this price point (check out the Schleich barn if you are in the luxury toy farm market, we certainly were not).

This barn set was a hit! It comes with several barn animals, a ladder for the barn loft, and a small fence. It's easy to store, and portable enough for on the go. This was part of my son's Christmas gifts, and by far, this is the Christmas toy that he plays with the most. It's one of his favorites! I would buy this toy again. Such a fun & cute toy!

I was disappointed when I opened this product, but from previous reviews I feel ours is not as bad as others. The barn doors have a really bad paint touch up job and the barn doors don't slide easily and are not aligned properly. The dog has very strange colours and the neon goat horns?? Luckily my 2 year old didn't even notice but my 5 year old thought they were weird. Overall the product is not too bad and my toddler is too small to notice paint jobs but, but it is definitely not the usual Melissa and Doug quality. There is no latch to lock it so it will open if you carry it around. I also think it will lead to the main hinge breaking.

With time, walking the trail of trial and errors, I pinned my favorites: Melissa & Doug, Battat, Hape, Magformers, Tegu, Bruder, Alex Toys, Playmobil, Lego, Elenco and a few more. For the board games, those are ThinkFun, Peaceable Kingdom, Smart Games and some classics. The thoughtfully designed and well-made toys and games are not cheap, but they worth the invested money and the benefits are immense. That's the case when we can say: "less is more", for few quality toys will flourish child's development and will have a huge impact on kid's intellectual growth, while the poorly made trinkets will end up in the garbage bin before your kid had outgrown them. During the last years, I bought quite a lot of "Melissa & Doug" - toys, games, playsets, puzzles and costumes and despite having kids that have that common to boys "anything can destroy" gift, "Melissa & Doug" toys still make it through. Pretend play is a very important part of the child's development that brings out creativity, imagination, dexterity, helps to develop motor and social skills. "Melissa & Doug" toys are great educational tools that help kids to develop different skills and raise their intelligence.

La ferme est très jolie et de bonne qualité. En revanche, elle est arrivée emballée dans un simple papier kraft sans aucune protection ( pas de papier bulle, pas de mousse). Résultat: la plupart des angles de toit sont abîmés. Je renvoie le produit et ne recommanderai pas le même. En plus son prix a augmenté de 9€ depuis ma commande!!!! Lamentable!

The toy itself was great and my child was excited about it, but unfortunately it arrived with damage on all the corners right out of the box. It seemed poorly packaged, and I ended up having to return it.
