I was debating between this one and Bridgestone Books. Both are great, but this is ideal for PreK-K. I purchased each for all of the continents and am very happy with them. Review: Five Stars - Bought them all-- perfect for my 4 year old who loves maps and learning about countries!

Great books for younger kids
This is a great book for the younger kiddos. I was debating between this one and Bridgestone Books. Both are great, but this is ideal for PreK-K. I purchased each for all of the continents and am very happy with them.

I used this book to help teach a class on geography. Children enjoyed the pictures and the fun facts.

thumbs up
beautiful photos, simple sentences, good information. We are using this alongside some of our preschool stories to enhance geography. Is it worth the sticker price? I think it is a bit inflated. If you find it second hand, grab it up!

Geography for beginning readers
Part of Scholastic's 2013 series on the continents, this title follows the well-known format of other Rookie Read-About books. The 32 pages generally alternate between text and full-page color photos. Basic information is given about people and animals that live on the continent, geography (water and land) and "Modern Marvels." The plural is not necessary since the Library of Alexandria is the only item discussed on the page. Four words with pictures are printed on the "Words to Know" page; I would prefer the title be "Glossary" so that young people can begin the learn the descriptors they will use in school. The index includes many more words than I would've expected in a book this length, a very nice surprise.

Fantastic illustrations and interesting facts. Used with year 1 children, would have preferred a larger version.

Unfortunately I will be returning this book as I don't consider it to be good value for more. Although stated that this was a paperback book, it is more like a pamphlet with a very flimsy outer cover. This certainly wouldn't protect the book From being ripped or torn by a younger child for whom the book was intended.
