Very Good Blade Guard
This bladeguard protects the blade itself and the blade edge from beating around in the knife drawer and getting dull and unattractive. Sometimes they are on sale which is a good time to measure your knife blades and order guards at least for the most used and/or valuable knives.I keep my knives very sharp and am especially careful to keep from filleting myself. As such, I developed a safe method of inserting the blade in the holder. First I lay the holder on the counter while holding the open edge up, making sure the slanted end of the guard is toward the handle. Then while holding the knife handle I press 1/3rd of the blade down into the open edge of the holder til it stops. Then I lift the knife and holder off the counter and hold it vertical over the counter with the guard resting on the counter. I press the handle downward slowly until the entire blade is covered. This way my hand stays as far away from the blade edge as possible. I'm sure there are other safe ways to do this, so I am simply describing what I do, not recommending it.

THESE are the ones:
As an admitted cutlery fiend, I’m here to confess that we have three knife blocks filled with exquisite knives. We joyfully own knives from Wusthof, Henckels and Asian names including Mak, Global and Shun. However, my longest knife specializes in brisket. A few years ago I bought the my first Mercer knife guard and was highly impressed. Our daughter is now beginning her own cutlery journey. Although she has a block, she has need to transport the three most essential knives: chefs, serrated bread, and paring. Again, Mercer has come to the rescue. By the way, when I choose the best knife set for the money as a gift for my appreciate sister, it was Mercer I gave her. Five years later, she and her husband continue to love them.

Works as intended!
Knife guard is just what I needed to keep the blade safe from getting dull and also from someone getting cut accidentally when reaching for it.

I own a lot of these
I keep replacing my old, dull, ancient knives with new sharp ones. Which means, if I don’t want to bleed a lot, I need knife sheaths. I like Mercer knife guards because they come in a variety of sizes and, quite often, they come pre-cut at an angle for your knife. If they aren’t cut, they are easy enough to cut. A definite must buy if you want to keep your new sharp knives sharp. Also, don’t put your knives in the dishwasher! That’s a fast way to dull them.

Not so good.
You'd think this would be a fool-proof product but this is actually one of the worst knife guards I've ever bought. Stiff, tight, hard to get the blade in, and after a couple years it cracked despite not doing anything except sit in the drawer.

Culinary safety
I like the fact that the knife guards keep my fingers from accidentally grabbing the sharp edges of my knives as I search for them in my crowded kitchen drawers. They grip the knives gently so the don't slip off accidentally. They are made of sturdy plastic so they should last a long time.

ought to be part of every knife purchase
wouldn't it be great to always have a sharp knife to use? this little tool really helps in keeping your knife sharper longer, well worth the purchase price.
