5 Centimeters per Second: one more side

If You're a Fan of 5 Centimeters Per Second, You'll Love This
Like what other readers have said here, this is a great novel that fills in a lot of the gaps of the movie. Where the movie leaves things unsaid, this fills in the gaps with concrete. One thing I particularly liked was the attention the novel gave to some of the key scenes of the original film. During important scenes, such as Takaki and Akari in the snow, Kanae and Takaki on the beach or seeing the rocket launch, among others, was that I could visualize the music and animation of the film alongside the text. Of course, not every passage felt this way, but that's how it goes when you're saying so much more than the original did.Something that bothered me were some typos that were throughout the book. Almost every book is going to have some typoes, so it's not a huge deal, but when there's a passage where Akari is clearly having an internal monologue, and it says that 'Akane was laughing to herself' it takes you out of the action a bit. Of course, this is not a huge deal, but it's something you wish that was caught. All in all, much thanks to Vertical for bringing "One more side" to the West. I've been a fan of Shinkai since I first watched 5 Centimeters Per Second in 2010, and this is another beautiful piece to put in my collection, and possibly yours too : )

Twist the Knife
There are few stories that are able to hit home as hard as the film 5 Centimeters Per Second. This book expands on the story presented in the movie, revealing Akari's perspective in the tragic romance, as well as two additional stories that further flesh out the characters. If you thought the movie was pretty but the characters were lacking, then I believe this book contains what you wanted to see.If the movie stabbed you in the heart, then this book will twist it. It can be emotionally difficult to read at times. It's a finely written book with an excellent translation. Highly recommended to fans of the film, ill-fated romance and anyone that wanted more character depth from the movie.

A great companion to the movie
This novel does a great job of adding another side to 5 Centimeters Per Second. The movie itself is just under an hour, so this goes a long way towards filling in the gaps. There's another novelization that covers the regular story, but this covers the viewpoints of Akari, Takaki, and Sumida when you wouldn't normally get their thoughts and feelings. As a huge fan of the movie, this book was a wonderful read. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who watched the film and was left wanting more.

Masterpiece
Novel was everything i expected it to be, being able to understand what akari went though in the first act cherry blossoms gave me a much better understanding of her character and why her relationship with takaki helped her shape into what she is today.

8/10
I felt emotional at parts. I was engaged with the story. I did not feel emotional for enough of it to justify a 9/10.

Not a graphic novel
My daughter loves it but was disappointed that it's a book not a graphic novel. That's our fault but we want others to be aware.
