KIDCO S333 Swivel Cabinet & Drawer Lock 4 Pack

During my first round of baby proofing after my little one started learning to walk, my wife and I chose to use the babies'r'us brand of cabinet and drawer locks. Now the my son is older and more curious, it is time to do a second round of baby proofing. The type I used during the first round turned out to be cheaply made and they consistently broke after a few months of use. After reading many reviews I settled on the KidCo Swivel Cabinet and Drawer locks and am so far very happy with them. I will obviously need to give them time to determine if they breaker like the others did though. Installing them was very simple. Many commented on the screws being cheap and breaking. I do not know if the company changed them since those reviews but I did have a single screw break out of the 20 I installed. I didn't even drill the pilot holes. The feature I really like about this product is the fact that you can turn then so they do not catch on the lip and basically turn the child proofing off. There was a review saying that the had to loosen the screws up in order to swivel them however I did not have this issue. There is a little tab that you push in and it releases the unit to swivel. The door/drawer does open about3 inches before it catches so it is possible for little fingers to get pinched. I am not really worried about this as it hasn't really been an issue but if you are worried about this you may want to consider a magnetic locking system. They are going to be more expensive but will not have this gap. Overall this product works great and installation is very easy. For the price and quality you can't go wrong.

Pain to install and the screws are cheap, but does the job. The screws are made out of very soft metal. If you are going to use these, you might want to go out and buy better screws. I stripped the heads of the provided screws when installing on my hardwood kitchen cabinets. One of the screw heads actually sheared off on another cabinet. I also installed these on the doors on a piece particle board of furniture (using different screws) and they do the job. Save yourself some headaches on the install and use a small piece of double-sided tape to hold the lock stop in place so you can just drill your pilot holes in the correct place before screwing it down; it makes installation a cinch.

I would not recommend you purchase this product. When I opened the package, the product seemed to be of a high quality. Installation went fairly smoothly until I attempted to tighten everything down and yes I drilled polity holes for everything. The problem is how tight everything needs to be to keep the pieces in place. As I tightened the screws, the heads sheered off. I was able to retrieve the first one with vice grips but unfortunately two more broke off too deep to remove. Now they are stuck in my cabinet. IF you do decide to purchase this product, do yourself a favor and go to ACE or another hardware store and replace the screws with ones that are high quality stainless steel.

Pros: - One piece set up. It has endured longer than my spring loaded cabinet lock - Easy installation. I was able to instal 10 of them in about 30 mins. - Closes easily. If installed correctly, self closing cabinets will still "self close." Cons: - Both of my kids figured out how to open these by the time they were 18 months and 20 months. I have heard of this happening from other parents and reviewers, so, I was very careful to hide how I opened these locks. But, those curious little figures started to play with them and sure enough, mystery was solved. The spring loaded ones are harder for them to put enough pressure on them to open the lock, but, not by long. If you are interested in a swivel lock, this is the one to purchase. All 6 of my spring loaded locks have officially broken. All my Kidco Swivel locks are still going strong. I installed both roughly within a month of one another. This product has worked well on the cabinets which are taller than my children. It was pointless for the cabinet under the sink. If you are interested in keeping your child out of base cabinets, you may want to shop for a different type of lock altogether.

I bought these because my son was starting to open everything and truthfully, they are SO difficult to install, I only got one set on one pair of cupboards before purchasing Safety First Adjustable Straps. Those are far easier to install, and so far, work crust as good. My son is 15 months old, getting into everything, and has pulled and tugged on those straps and they still keep the cabinets secured. These latches are not only frustrating to install,it once they are installed, they're simply a pain in the fine to open. I'm not against these in particular, as I'm sure all cabinet latches are similar in their installation, but I won't be buying any more of these or any other brand of cabinet latches.

Second time purchasing these. Exactly as described. For use when the grandchildren are with us, so able to turn them round when not needed.

Brilliant cupboard locks that can be twisted to 'off' when the grandchildren have gone home. I highly recommend them
