Magneto Vol. 1: Infamous (Magneto (2014-2015))

As a long time fan of the X-Men as a whole and Magneto in particular, I enjoyed this tremendously. I ordered this at the same time as "Magneto: Testament," which was finally reprinted, and the two pair together extremely well.Bunn gets Magneto's voice perfectly in this volume, as we see him roaming the country, eliminating threats to mutantkind. There are a couple of instances where we think we're about to see a softer side of Magneto, only to have him revert to his true form time and time again, which is essentially what this story is, coming on the heels of Magneto partnering with Cyclops for the past few years, but now going out on his own again.The second arc deals with Magneto seeking vengeance for perhaps the most infamous mutant-on-mutant crime, the Mutant Massacre (a classic and incredible story from the 1980s that included the first published encounter between Sabretooth and Wolverine). It's worth picking up that collection if you want to know more about the Marauders, who are the victims of Magneto's wrath here. The final page of this collection left me wondering what direction this will head next, and I'll definitely be keeping my eye out for the next volume.

Magneto is one of comicdom`s most intriguing & deadliest characters. In this edition, he serves up death but not much intrigue - becoming the Lone Avenger & vigilante trawling through smalltowns exacting vengeance. Though the writing and art aren't bad, it all becomes a little repetitive & one note as Magneto stalks his prey and no-one can stop him.The stories are all about delivering the maximum Magneto hurt , so much so that they could have subtitled this 50 Ways to Kill. Magneto needs a supporting cast or adversary worthy of his stature. Otherwise he's just one crabby mutant with a big chip on his shoulder.

If you love Magneto then this is another great addition. It's another dark entry into a character who you can sympathize with and hate at the same time.

Book came as described

Post house of M Magneto shaves his head and goes after ANYONE who poses a threat to his people. Awesome brutal detail of things about Magneto readers may have assumed but didn't see in person are shown. Definitely worth a read.

The first few issues of this book are interesting and have great potential as far as writing goes. However, I'm not a huge fan of the artwork. It just doesn't seem to fit the X-men universe.

Odd series. Hard to understand magneto deal. Fascinating but hard.

I didn't really expect much from this book. After reading it however, it's an incredibly written story with gripping artwork. This little magneto series is better than any xmen movie thus far and I'm reminded once again that comicbook films are nothing compared to the real thing.

I'd been looking for a book as punchy as The Dark Knight, and in the vein of Michael Fassbender's portrayal of Magneto. This book is it.

Im Gegensatz zu DC sind viele Marvel-Titel (gerade die Marvel Now-Neuauflagen) ja doch recht harmlos, gefühlt direkt auf filmische Adaptionen und ein möglichst breites Publikum abzielend, umgesetzt.Umso mehr habe ich mich also gefreut, dass mit Magneto eine Serie dabei ist, die mal so richtig düster, kalt und gemein ist.Das Artwork der Serie ist wirklich fantastisch; die dunkle, matte Colorierung der etwas raueren Zeichnungen rahmen den 'gefallenen' Magneto in seinem einmal mehr aufgenommenen Kampf für die Mutanten perfekt. An den Bildern kann man sich wirklich kaum sattsehen und bleibt bei einzelnen Panels lange hängen.Auch die Geschichte weiß durchaus zu überzeugen (ab jetzt Achtung, kleine Spoiler): Wir bekommen Magneto, der einem Teil seiner Kräfte beraubt, ist präsentiert und verfolgen ihn dabei, wie er aus dem Untergrund als Einzelkämpfer als Rächer der Mutanten agiert. Das ist spannend und auch durch die persönliche Motivation seines Protagonisten fesselnd umgesetzt. Eigentlich gibt es an dem Band also nichts zu meckern - eigentlich.Denn ein Problem hat der Band: Die unglaubliche Bürde, die gesamte (nicht gradliniege) Geschichte eines Charaktes wie Magneto irgendwie im Hinterkopf haben zu müssen, um ihn in seinem Handeln zu verstehen. Das ist unglaublich schwierig für Einsteiger und wohlmöglich auch fortgeschrittene X-Men-Freunde. Wer nur die Filme und eine paar X-Men-Bände kennt, der wird größere Probleme haben, die Geschichte ganz zu durchdringen. Ohne von Genosha oder den Sentinels zu wissen, kann man den Comic kaum verstehen und die Autoren geben sich auch nur wenig Mühe, solche Dinge aufzuarbeiten. Zwar gibt es immer mal wieder Rückblenden, aber diese umfassen nur wenige Panels und erklären nicht allzu viel. Hier hätten die Autoren sich meines Erachtens doch noch etwas länger aufhalten können.Abseits der Einstiegshürde aber insgesamt ein toller Comic und ich werde die Serie auf jeden Fall weiter verfolgen.
