Hi Janet: I've never had the problem you indicate. Is the G6 not lighting up at all when you plug in the charger (i.e. to indicate it's being charged)? If it is not, are you sure you have the charger all the way into the socket on the bottom right of the G6 when you have the unit face down? Have you tried several different wall sockets? Is the G6 so dead that it will not turn on at all even when you are not attempting to charge it? How long have you had the G6? Has it been working regularly up until now? If there's nothing wrong with the socket you are using and the charger is all the way in, you may have a bad battery and it may well be under warranty. If I were you I would call Garmin and ask to talk to customer support or technical support. I have found them to be very consumer oriented over the years.

What is the slide in adapter?

If I'm understanding your question correctly, the slide in adapter is the USB device that enables you to plug into a lab top or desk top pc for downloading course updates, registering the device with Garmen, etc. There is a smaller port for use in recharging.

How does it display yardages to front, middle and back of the green

How? When you zoom into the green, it has a pin in the middle of the green. Using that, it then draws a vertical line through the green, and where that line crosses the front and back edge, it gives you those distances. If the green is an odd shape, you can move the pin by touching the screen, and it will give you front/pin/back for that location.

Which is better the 3 or the 6

Being an owner of both items, the 6 is far better if only for the high definition screen which is so easy to read even in sunlight. They both operate about the same, but I much prefer the 6 to the 3. 1 drawback - the 6 doesn't allow for sliding it into a marine style holder for GPSs that I already had mounted on my golf cart. Easiest fix was I had to super glue the new holder to the old mount, and for 3 months now, it has worked beautifully.
