Serious Design Flaw
This kettle looks nice and heats water as well as any other kettle. Unfortunately it seems to have a design flaw in that there is a small steel lip just inside the pouring spout that collects water and after about a month of daily use the steel lip has developed a significant rust issue.

Love
I’ve seen others post about rusting so I was very reluctant to go with this kettle. I ended up buying it simply just because it matches my other red kitchenaid products and it’s so cute lol. After using this daily for over a month, I’ve had zero issues with rusting. I do not wipe it dry after use, I just leave it on the still-warm burner and hope it evaporates which seems to work. The paint has scratched on the bottom but my stove is gas and has metal grates so that’s to be expected. Overall, I’d say ignore the negative reviews and get this kettle!

Looks nice, but could use some improvements
First, if you like the 'KitchenAid look', then this tea kettle will fit right in with your other appliances. But as a functional tea kettle, it has some issues. I have already reviewed the Circulon 1-1/2-Quart Circles Teakettle, Black and also own the OXO Good Grips Pick Me Up Tea Kettle, Brushed Stainless. The OXO is still our favorite for these reasons:- The rubberized handle does not get hot.- The pour spout opens automatically when you lift by the handle. This KitchenAid handle does get too hot when you have it on a high flame. And the pour spout is metal and must be opened with your finger - another hot part that could burn you.

I don't recommend this kettle if you have a gas burner
The problem with this kettle is that the hinge for the whistle is made of plastic. If the neck gets hot, which it will if the flame is too large, the hinge will melt and the whistle will stop working. I don't recommend this kettle if you have a gas burner.

Disappointed
While the quality is excellent as you would expect from Kitchen Aid, this is not stainless and needs to be emptied and dried after each use to prevent rusting. The color is way off too. On the box and in the picture it looks like a nice lemon yellow. It is NOT. It is taxi cab yellow. Instead of whistling it should honk!

lasts about 1 year
I like this kettle, and this is the second one I got of it after the first one corroded. This one also corroded on inside and so tossing it out now. Each one lasted about a year of regular usage where I didn't empty the water out after use. Moving on to something else now.

Whistling spout cover broke on first use!
I bought the kettle specifically for its metal spout cover. I prefer metal and avoid plastics when it comes to high heat. Guess what? There is still plastics in the cover, and it broke on the very first use. The cover was wiggling and then the entire thing just fell off when I flipped it. I hadn't even turn on the stove!Very disappointed! Perhaps it was just my luck to get a defective product. Must say, the design and the signature KitchenAid color was spot-on, but the quality of the parts needs serious improvement.

Cool-to-touch handle, nice design.
( UPDATE: I dropped it on a tile floor, it dented and chipped the paint off, which is expected with enamel) I had just returned a Copco tea kettle because the plastic spout-whistle melted after 3 weeks. SO this was my replacement! Notice this tea kettle has the metal spout-whistle? LoL. Me too. So far, so good. The color is the empire red, darker than I thought it would be. The interior is black enamel. I wish it was white, so I could tell if it will rust in time, as all my tea kettles are replaced for that reason! The handle is comfortable after boiling to pick up and pour, the spout whistle is easy to open for pouring. I'm pleasantly surprised that I can handle it after boiling! This would be the first tea kettle that I didn't need an oven mitt to handle after boiling. Yay! The whistle is loud, starts out low pitch and builds up to a screech if you don't get it off the heat. We boil water for tea throughout the day, so this will have daily use. Everything works as expected or better. Seems well made. I hope it holds up, I really like it! If anything changes, I will update.
