Basic Machines and How They Work Paperback – June 15, 2011

This is a great little book. It is just what I was looking for. I needed a book that covered the basics of pulleys, hydraulics, gears, etc. This covers it all in a very easy to understand manner. I was glad to get it and I have used it a lot.

It appears a lot of the contents in this book were barrowed from older Navy training manuals. I would suspect in response to the outbreak of WWII when we needed a lot of everything quickly not to mention trained personnel to operate, maintain and repair the ships, aircraft and myriad of associated equipment. This book presents solid basics every mechanic, builder or operator, no matter their experience level can use to learn how to do their job better. In 2017 this book would be excellent for new DIYers and "old hands". to learn or re-learn the basics of how things work. I have over 20 years of experience as an aircraft mechanic in the military and in the first few minutes of perusing this book I learned something new. This an excellent reference book for anybody owning and maintaining a house or vehicle.

In the Kindle version the text is fine, but many of the figures and diagrams are cut off. Aren't these things checked before putting it up for sale?

I had hoped there would be more information. Maybe newer machines. For a biginner this would be fine. The information in the book is the same as a bigginers statics class. The paper back book looks like it was scaned and bounded. I could not find the date of the first printing ... It looks like the 1950's maybe older.

I picked up the physical copy of the book for my (post-apocalyptic) library and am quite happy with the product. This naval manual looks like it was written in the 1940s. It starts simple with simple machines like levers and wedges and then works up to covering the basics of gasoline engines and power-trains. The writers sprinkled the text with both illustrations and equations in order to make the content as broad-based and accessible as possible.

A very concise overview of mechanical principles using practical examples. Well worth the price for what you get. Recommended for first year engineering courses or anyone who needs a refresher on mechanical principles.

This is a short well written textbook for a practically oriented scholar of machines.It is not for an academic high-level audience but the presentation is systematic and clear, giving a classification of the basic mechanism of mechanism and machines.Especially the plenty figures work very well to explain the mechanisms.Highly recommended considering the low price.

機械部品を扱うものが、これを英語でなんと言うのだろうと、この部品の働きをどのように表現したらいいのかと迷った時に、この本はとても役立つような気がする。内容的には、日本語の方が丁寧かもしれないが、日本の本は高すぎるような気がするーーーー。
