Replaceable batteries
Why get a TV with an internal battery if you have no electricity to recharge? I don't have need of it often, but when I do, it is great: color, sound, too many channels (there's a trick to this).

VERY NICE PRODUCT!
Very nice product, very nice price, one of it's best features is the fact that it can use disposable AA batteries. It seems to last more than a reasonable amount of time on battery power. My pictures were very clear, I would recommend, and did buy an additional one.

I can't tell if it's new or a refurb TV
My RCA TV came with several scratches on the screen, but it was sold as a new item. Most electronic items with screens, like cell phones, TVs, and monitors, usually come from the factory with a protective magnetic cling film over the screen, but my TV didn't have it, so I think it was refurbished. If this is how new RCA TVs come from the factory, their quality control has seriously lapsed. The TV reception was weak, and I don't know if it was weak because it was defective/refurbished, or if the tiny antenna is inadequate. (I live in Oakland, CA, a big city, so TV reception is usually pretty good for my other TVs with rabbit ear antennas.)Thankfully, the seller processed a full refund and I am returning the TV. I will most likely buy another one at my local electronics store.

Reception is terrible and the only channels you get are 4 and ...
Does not work properly. Reception is terrible and the only channels you get are 4 and they are all religious or a spanish station. I purchase for emergencies and did not get my local station to keep up with the storm. A waste of money. I do not recommend at all.

As good as digital permits
Sensitivity is pretty good; color is okay, suffers a little in red. Resolution is good, exceeds Human eyes (which are not high-resolution); can easily read small "crawls" messages displayed at the bottom of some channels. The unit has CLOSED CAPTION, really nice. Seems to be an "LED" screen, so no short-life CCF to burn out. My other (analog!) pocket TV's are liquid crystal screens lit with a cold-cathode-fluorescent bulb that only has a few thousand hours life.Unit has VERY desirable "program guide" -- displays next 10 programs on a given channel, though always truncates the "show description". Seems no way to view full description. Does not have "multi-channel program grid" display.Deficiencies are many -- of course the flimsy antenna (very easy to damage), and high current (2-hour batteries). But worse are "boot" and "auto-tune". You cannot just turn this TV on, it has to BOOT. A couple seconds of black screen, 3 seconds of white "RCA" logo with two theme-dogs, 2 seconds of black screen, then finally your station. IF the antenna is just right. The "auto-tune" will receive all available stations, but "available" is also a function of antenna position. Unfortunately, there's no way to tell if the antenna is positioned correctly except to "auto-tune" -- spends 1-3 seconds on each of 69 channels (several minutes per try), only THEN do you know if it has found the channel you want. And you can't tune HALF -- if you like channels 17-69, you can't retune the lower and stop it before 17; entering "auto-tune" zeroes out EVERY channel and starts from scratch. Expect to spend at least an hour for weaker stations; then you'll probably lose an OTHER station you wanted! Suggest not having a hammer or other blunt heavy object anywhere CLOSE, it is very, very frustrating.Once you get your stations tuned, be very careful. You cannot quickly change channels, pushing "channel up" or "down", you have to click it DOZENS of times to go 2-3 channels. Of course you'll overshoot and have to go back. Watching 2 programs on different channels is HARD. But there's a really special feature -- it sometimes DELETES your hard-won auto-tuning, randomly changing a channel number to something that does not exist -- then you have to spend another hour or two with the AUTO-TUNE! Put all hammers and bookends at the other end of the house first!Oh -- channel format -- you'll have to STOP and change format for almost every channel. The set offers "Normal", "Wide", "Zoom", and "Cinema". Each channel is different, so it takes a dozen button-pushes to find a format which fills the screen without distorting. Pleasant thing is it never says "Not Allowed To Change Aspect Ratio On This Channel", almost every program can be viewed full screen; and Human eyes are full screen, not wide. Programs like "SG1" never aired full-screen, this set WILL display it full -- really delightful.Forget using this as "emergency info" -- all digital TV's have a COMPUTER inside to decode the format. This consumes current, fresh hot expensive alkaline batteries only last a couple hours. Other models with built-in lithium also only run a couple hours, this seems the only model to use standard "AA" batteries. Lithiums are expensive and require disassembly & soldering to change (and don't have as many charge cycles as Nicad/Hydride), so the "AA" feature is desirable. You can instantly change batteries and have a working set, rechargeable models have to charge (tough luck if your power's out). We watched pocket analog sets when a December '07 ice storm knocked out power to 95% of residents, for 1-3 weeks; not even this set will permit that anymore. Unless you can afford $5000 worth of "AA" batteries!(I did rig an external "D" battery supply, 6V, runs much longer than the internal "AA".)The car-jack is useless, the moment your car starts moving the screen and sound go dead; you'll get the station back at red stoplights. Contact your congressman and demand a couple analog channels be turned back on so we can stay alive during tornadoes, earthquakes, ice-storms, etcetera. (Pocket TV's saved many lives in Oklahoma with 80+ twisters, 5/3/99; not allowed any more.) Mention light-bulbs, working toilets, and socialized medicine when you do!Passing airplanes will kill the signal -- sound starts dropping out, picture freezes and "tiles" (artifacts). Just be patient until the plane is gone, hug yourself and chant "DIGITAL IS BETTER", pretending Humans have high-def and WIDESCREEN eyes. This set with its FULL SCREEN format is a pleasure. 99.93% of all images on TV lose nothing by trimming BLANK areas at the sides; "widescreen" was a gimmick from Fox starting 1953.The antenna connector sold on Amazon does work, but not without trimming rubber from the plug at least 1/8 inch (will not plug in as supplied). And be prepared to cut off the useless jack and solder in a standard "F" connector. I used hotglue to insulate and strain-relieve the cord. Better get a quick-connect "F" patch cord and cut off one end & solder to the Gino one; then you'll have space to reach the antenna.Aside from the flimsy antenna, the frustrating tuning (and infuriating tendency to DROP a stored channel), this is probably as good a product for the sorry digital format as you can get. The other complaints are more related to the digital format itself. "Digital" STARTS as an analog signal, then gets converted -- and has to be converted back for viewing (Humans are analog!); two conversions can never be as good as original! As everyone knows (ask anyone whether an LP or CD sounds better) -- analog is the pure, digital is the inferior plastic imitation. This set does pretty good at converting digital back to analog sound and picture, if the signal is strong. I don't think you'll find a better pocket digital set.

Very happy with this little TV!
Wonderful little TV, I love it! Clear picture, runs on four AA batteries (but I use the electric converter I found on Amazon). I bought it at a great price, and delivery was so fast!
