Does it turn on during day light and does it have an option to use it when dark or for 24 hours whenever motion is detected?

Mine is in the kitchen and it will turn on, even if the main kitchen and dining room lights are already on. It doesn't seem to be as sensitive to moving bodies when the lights are already on. It's range is reduced. In the dark of night, I believe the sensitivity of sensor increases. Because someone walking into the living room 20 feet from the device, will trigger it on. In the day time, that doesn't happen. You have to be in the kitchen to trigger it. If you have pets walking around at night, they will most likely trigger it.

after detecting motion what is the maximum operation time? I would like to set it to one hour. I see from one of the answers that it can be set to 20

On the back it has a dial you can set for 1-2-5-10-or 20 minutes. These are the only options it gives you. Great product for the price.

Do you plug this into the wall or do you have to wire it inside the outlet?

Just plug it into the outlet. No special wiring required.

I received new version which turns on and off 5 times when I plug it in. Is this normal?

It’s possible it’s in test mode. Normally all motion activated devices will run a test phase upon initial use. There should be some toggle switches on the back to adjust the duration o time to remain on once activated by motion.
