It has rechargable battery. It did come with a very short usb/micro usb cord that can plug into a power adaptor or computer to recharge.

I am looking for an inexpensive wireless speaker to boost my computer speaker. Would this speaker be good for that?

I would say yes. I m amazed at the sound that comes from this little speaker. If you put the Bass boost feature on it will provide more "depth" to the sound. I haven't used it on my computer but have used it with a tablet and a phone when I am working outside and it is clear and has a long range. If you can utilize a blue tooth connection from your computer you can place the speaker behind you and get a surround sound effect. Good luck making your decision.

Stereo vs mono? Yes, it is stereo. BTW, mine did not last long, and quit working after just a few months of use. Infrequent use.
