Purchased for my Ford VAN.
If you have already read my review for the Kenwood Excelon 6x9 speakers then this one is about the same.I gave these speakers a 4 out of 5 rating because the speaker grills are difficult to install and or remove. The grills use a piece of putty that you have to add into a slot along the grills tabs and then sink the tabs into the putty to make them stay in place. If the grills went in with just the friction type of system they would get a 5 star. I must note that in my VAN these speakers are mounted in the front of the van in an overhead console. So the speakers grill area points downward making Mr. Gravity pull at them 24/7, you mount these in your rear dash with the speakers facing up then most likely the grill problem will be a non issue for you.. just wanted to make that clear. As it gets hot in the van (southern calif) the putty seems to get soft and the grills either droop down or fall out all together. but like I said if you are putting them in most stock areas of the rear dash area under your rear window the grill will be facing up and you wont have to worry about them coming off. I don't know about installing them in the doors as I installed these and their counterparts (Kenwood Excelon 6x9 speakers) in front and rear overhead consoles.Anyway... these speakers are the real deal and they sound absolutely wonderful. They are heavy with very heavy magnets. The cage is steel and the speakers are very well made and put together.Pro:Sound and look great!Nice heavy packagingDid I mention that these speakers sound amazing!Con:The silly putty that you have to use to keep the grills in place.I would purchase these speakers again,I didn't have to tell my friends about them... they heard me coming 4 blocks away.

Excellent performance value. Needs an external amp.
Fantastic. Clarity without shrillness. Highs are crystal clear at high volumes. Bass was good. Mid bass, and vocal frequencies were good as well. Frequencies were balanced across the spectrum. I have always been a fan of kenwood head units and amplifiers. Although quality control issues occasionally occur. Thought I'd give their speakers a try. Made the music more enjoyable to listen to than the RE audio speakers I had. Mistakes were made, let's move on. I would say these are comparable to a set of infinity kappa coaxial speakers I had a few years back. Not quite as good as Focal components, but the performance to price value is good. I think I will try a set of kenwood excelon components next time. I have an Alpine powerpack amp on order for this system. I am just running off of the head unit currently. I expect to be even more impressed after the amplifier install. These speakers really need more power to run at full potential. If I change my mind or have any startling revelations I will update this in a couple weeks.

Great but with doubts
I use them with a Kenwood stereo KDC-MP345 50W, with no other device or amplifier. You feel the difference, good for this price.Bass: great, I really hear the drums, it is a real bass sound, not an extra bass sound to show off in the red lights, I heard details of instruments that I've never noticed, without distortion as you turn up the volume.Highs: great.Mids: great.Strong bass hurts my hears if I listen it in the way they sound better. With my radio it is difficult to get a good "equalizing" to lower the bass to avoid this and keeping a good quality sound at the same time.My doubt. A problem. There is an imbalance. The right side is stronger, I haven't tested it yet, so I don't know if one of the speakers is defective or if it is an installation or radio problem.

Not that the 4" speakers in the back are bad, but I'm so happy with the performance I'm ...
Stoked. I have an older Isuzu Trooper. Last year I replaced the stock speakers with $50-$60 6.5 Pioneers in the front and 4" Rockford Fosgates in the rear. I also have an 8" self powered bass tube, a decent aftermarket head unit and a 300ish watt amp pushing the interior speakers. While it was a considerable upgrade from the stock system I found the front speakers struggling to handle the power and demand. I listen to everything from Wu-Tang to Mozart and everything in between. Constant bottoming out and scratchiness. I just installed these Kenwoods today and pushed the volume way up. Immediate and impressive difference. Not that the 4" speakers in the back are bad, but I'm so happy with the performance I'm cutting out the 4" speakers in the rear and putting another set of these in. Bass is solid and vocals seem clear. They handle the power very well...

Full range awsomeness with more awsome price!
So I have these as my rear speakers in my car and I actually questioned myself, wondering if I should have purchased another for the front, instead of doing components!! (Kenwood Kfc-P709Ps 6.5-Inch Performance Series Component Speaker System) Now, I definitely get a more clear sounds from the components, but this PRICE is amazing! The bass definitely doesn't hit as nice as my components, but it's still pretty beefy and the mids and highs produce a very decent sound. As "support" speakers to produce a more full effect in the car, these definitely, hands down, accomplish this goal and then some!Powered by a MB Quart Discus 480 (Amazon has this listed as: AMP 4X80W @ 4 OHMS 4X160W @ 2 OHMS), again, these plus my components are matched perfectly with the 80W RMS.I would do this setup again, any day. I really think I found the best "Less than $250" setup!

Great Mids and Highs
Great mids and highs, went well with my Kenwood head unit and the Kenwood Kfc-6993Ps 6 x 9s that I ordered along with this speaker set. The Kenwood 6 x 9's gave me plenty of bass in my 96 civic coupe and these speaker complimented them well. They are very loud with little to no distortion at max headunit volume settings. The mounting bracket was great that comes with the speakers, it allows for a snug and secure fitment. The only modification that I had to make was in the backing of the door to allow for a deeper speaker/magnet compared with the stock civic paper speakers. All that took was a sharp knife to cut the plastic. Also if you don't want to cut the plug off of the Honda's/or other manufacture's speaker wire, buy an adapter...it makes the install much cleaner ( I did not to this, I wish I had)
