2015 release from the British a cappella octet, a luminous selection of pieces spanning over 400 years: From Thomas Tallis and Gregorio Allegri to Massive Attack ('Teardrop') and Ben Folds Five ('The Luckiest'). LUX (the Latin for "light") brings hope, banishes darkness and nurtures both the body and the spirit - it has inspired composers from the earliest times until the present day. Features works by two of the most talked about composers of our time: Norway's Ola Gjeilo and Will Todd (UK). There is something inherently comforting about the sound of unaccompanied voices blended in harmony. Saxophone, cello, harp and water glasses make otherworldly additions to several tracks. Review: Viva - Wonderful choral ensemble. I have had the pleasure of seeing them live twice. This CD is Voces8 at their best. Review: Ethereal Voces8 - Beautiful voices and several beautiful and ethereal motets and editions of plain chant. 8 people sound like a choir of 20 or more.

Voces8 sing wonderfully
This group sings so well together. The sound they make is amazingly beautiful. In all honesty, if you're a fan of choral music I think you should purchase this CD. The only thing that keeps it from being a five is that the compositions the group sings on this CD aren't consistently at the same level. Some are just okay, but Voces8 themselves make up for it and sustain this album. Very good, worth checking out.

Beautiful inspiring music by world class performers - this will be a classic for years to come.
I "discovered" Voces8 in a youtube recording of the Elgar Lux Aeterna Nimrod variation and had tears as I listened. Their talent, technique, ensemble, musical selection and arrangement are close to perfection in my mind. I had to know more about this group of performers and found LUX. I have had the CD for a month and can't stop playing it. In addition to the lovely Elgar selection are many beautiful pieces. They do a beautiful job on Morten Lauridsen's Lux Aeterna, another favorite, and have introduced me to the haunting work of Ola Gjeilo. This CD is a mix of old and new sacred music, plus a couple of other gems like The Luckiest by Ben Folds. This CD haunts, delights, and inspires.

very beautiful albumn
Excellent CD but I also ordered their cd To Sing of Love just to have The Lark Ascending piece. I cancelled this second order because the choral part was missing which is what I had wanted most to hear.Beware.

Heavenly
Every arrangement on this cd is exquisite, and Voces 8 is impeccable in every performance. This is my favorite cd by them and listening to it is like a meditation that brings so much peace as I follow every intricate, perfectly expressed song. So lovely!!!

Incisione Decca eccellente.

Interesting mix of tracks, some traditional choral, some decidedly not, but worth listening to. Great group!
I was introduced to Voces 8 by a friend who is also a huge choral lover, and I am delighted with this discovery. A quiet Sunday was the perfect time to put on Lux, and the professionalism and skill of the Voces 8 singers was immediate on hearing the first few tracks. When we go to Allegri's Miserere (one of my favourite early choral pieces) I was struck by the skills of the group, the way they can blend the parts, and the soaring highs and solid bass voices. This is a great group, and I've ordered their complete discography to add to my choral collection. The other piece I particularly love is the Elgar Enigma Nimrod choral version (Lux Eternae), which starts beautifully and never fails to give me goosebumps, but the tempo is too fast for my liking and for some reason the latter part of the work doesn't thrill me as much as I had hoped. The tracks on this CD are a wide variety, ranging from traditional choral fare (such as the Miserere) to more recent choral compositions, as well as several lesser-known pieces. Most are wonderful, but there are a few tracks that will stand out for you, depending on your choral preferences. Never heard saxophone with your choral music? You will here! While this CD would be a solid background music disc, I prefer it up from and central, focusing on the music and the emotions conveyed on some of my favorite tracks. Very well done, and while not a traditional choral mix, perhaps that's all to the better. Most choral discs don't include Massive Attack!

Matthias Noack
