Would this be good to light a basement to paint furniture?

I think this will be good but depends on the light bulbs you choose also

Is this pretty good lighting for indoor? Or am I better off buying a stand up light at walmart with 3 bulbs? I mainly need it for indoors to do makeup

If you are doing professional make-up you could use his light as it comes with a daylight bulb. If you are just doing your own make up this may be a bit more than you would need. It is after all photography lighting.

It's certainly made the lighting in my videos better now, however I do plan on investing in a (Diva) ring light in the near future bc they pick up on the color pigment of makeup so well if you get a good enough quality one. For now, I am grateful for this little booger. Best wishes to you.

Can this be used in a more compact manner? That is, can you use the stand without fully extending it as shown?

The stand can be used much shorter that the pic shown, i think the picture is showing it extended up all the way to show how high it will go, hope this helps
