Good sturdy cooler for short term use....
I bought this cooler because we were going on a road trip from Oregon to Wyoming and packed frozen meals for our camping adventures. I didn't feel like spending $500 on a YETI cooler so I researched coolers under $100 and this cooler had outstanding reviews on random blogs and amazon. We packed up the cooler the morning we started driving with fresh ice from the freezer and the frozen meals and started driving. The cooler stayed shut tightly in the car the whole time we drove (I made sure) and after 8 hours of driving, the ice was half melted and all the food was fully defrosted. I bought this cooler because it said it keeps ice up to 4 days or whatever and I was very disappointed that the ice didn't even last 8 hours in the cooler. I ended up having to buy two bags of ice a day that camping trip just to keep our food cold. I ended up returning it just for that fact. The positives (why I gave it at least 3 stars) : it is very sturdy and very roomy! The wheels roll well and its easy to carry. It would be a great cooler for just like a day at the lake or something. But very disappointed in its ability to keep ice in the way it's advertised.

Great for long weekend camping, manageable size, and Amazon sale rocked (2011-July)
Two parts to this review...first the price/shipping. I was going on a camping trip, leaving Friday morning, when I remembered that one of my two coolers was busted (lid hinges snapped off). This was very late on the Saturday night previous to leaving. I was standing in a mega-grocery store that was selling the 50 or 52 quart version on sale for $40, but I knew that was too small. This store also sold the 62 quart wheeled version, but for $70. So I whipped out the smart phone and did a search on the UPC number and found that Amazon was selling the 62 quart wheeled version, new, for $40 (2011-July) with free Super Saver shipping! This unit was selling for no less that $60 anywhere else (with shipping). But with Super Saver delivery coming in 5-8 business days (Monday being the first day), I knew it wouldn't come in time. So I opted for the $5.60 standard shipping with 3-5 business days (gambling that most stuff does NOT arrive on the long end, but typically the middle/short end). I crossed my fingers and sure enough, it arrived Thursday. So five stars for Amazon for price and shipping.Second, let's review the unit. Starting with the negatives, the handles feel a little cheap and there is no upper tray that comes with the unit (my old one mostly fit, though, so no big deal to me)...well, that's about it. On the positive side, it's got good wheels that are only engaged when tipped, a slightly slanted interior for easier drainage, better constructed hinges, and superior insulation. Out of all the coolers that our group had that weekend, this one was the ONLY one that came back with unmelted ice still in it (3 days of highs in the upper 70s, keeping it mostly in the shade). I normally do not hand out 5-stars, but this one deserves it based on its overall performance and design--just wish it had a tray.UPDATE: Sure enough, one of the handles broke fairly early on. I have not contacted the company yet to see how hard (or costly) a replacement will be.

Don't buy another cooler!
I don't camp. So if you're buying this for camping, this review won't be helpful.I got this as an emergency supply, to keep food while the power was out. It obviously works great at a party, too. We without power for about 5 days. We knew the hurricane was coming, so I spent a full day cooling it beforehand as Coleman recommends. I used bottles of vodka from my freezer and ice packs to bring down the temperature. It was colder in the cooler than in my fridge by the time the power went out!! I threw in all the perishables. After 2 days, it was still cold, but my freezer packs were just cool; no longer frozen. So, I found a place that sells dry ice. The salesman thought the dry ice would sublimate after 1-2 days. But, I got it anyway. I dumped it straight in the cooler; layered it with paper bags; and put my food on it. The next morning my eggs had frozen to the point of explosion! My milk also was about half solid. But, at least I knew the food was safe.Anyway, the dry ice lasted over 3 days until we got our power back. The dry ice wasn't disappearing and I wanted to clean the cooler so I dumped a bunch of water on it. It still took the rest of the day to completely melt!!This cooler is so well insulated that using it with dry ice is going to be too cold for your food. I just bought the smaller, silver Xtreme to keep the dry ice next time and will use that to cool ice packs to cool all the food in this cooler. It is a GREAT emergency supply.

Coleman Quality - No more running out of ice!
As a longtime car-camper I have gotten a lot of years out of my previous Coleman coolers. Unfortunately as time goes on the brands and products you learn to trust begin to require questioning as manufacturing is outsourced. When the time came for me to purchase a new cooler I was ready to buy an inexpensive Coleman model but after my testing I found the ice to turn to a pool of water in less than a day! I quickly returned the product and looked for an alternative. The Coleman Xtreme was a perfect solution for my needs! The wheels make moving the cooler from the car to the campsite a breeze. There is plenty of room without being too bulky. I was able to fit this cooler in the back of a small sedan without any issues whatsoever. Based on my tests with the cooler closed, outside, I still had solid ice on the 5th day. Now in a real-world scenario where the cooler is regularly opened (kids..) my ice lasted me a solid 3 days. More than enough for a weekend trip. At a recent party I filled this cooler with a full 24 pack of beer plus several six-packs of soda and still has room! Even though the cooler was opened every 10 minutes throughout the day I still had solid ice by the end of the party. In just a few trips I feel I will have gotten my moneys worth by my savings in ice and time alone. Thanks Coleman! I would definitely recommend this cooler for car campers, tailgaters, parties and other events.
