Q: How long (in hrs) would you estimate it takes to become familiar with the scanning software for someone who is fairly computer savvy?

Even if you are computer 'savvy' it may still take you a while becoming accustomed to this unit, depending upon what you are copying. If perhaps you wish to copy an article from a magazine it can be quite simple and easy to use, especially if there is only one page involved. The problem I ran across was while trying to convert one of our hardback books to an ebook format. Most of our books fall into the maximum size permitted to make a dual page copy. Unless you are extremely careful the unit's software may not recognize the page size properly and in some cases the copy might not be good enough for OCR. If you have a softcover novel it is much easier to copy. After a little practice, because of their software, the pages mostly come out flat and straight and are acceptable for you ebook use. Be sure to download their latest software updates, it makes all the difference in the world. Watch all of their instructional videos first it will speed things up greatly. Expect to spend anywhere from one to four hours learning.

The xcanex has to be connected to a computer via the USB and it is USB powered. The advantages include direct scanning to the computer without having to transfer scans, direct cut and paste images/text into other applications such as reports, presentations or research consolidations. It can also directly scan to cloud systems such as Dropbox or Microsoft OneDrive so that scans are automatically archived and be accessed by smartphones or tablets, or be shared with anyone instantly. Other advantages include allowing users to view/edit scans immediately, not needing to charge the scanner and being much lighter without built-in batteries.piQx Team
