granddaughter took off and now has a lot of fun with the pottery wheel
My 11 yr. old granddaughter loves the pottery wheel and makes pottery with it frequently. At first, it was very frustrating for her to learn how to operate it. Her mother reread all the instructions and helped her get started. After a personal lesson, granddaughter took off and now has a lot of fun with the pottery wheel. I included an extra supply of clay and also the modeling tools with the birthday gift (all on Amazon).

Broke within first use
Very easy set up but motor/foot pedal broke with normal use, within first 15 minutes of use --made for a very disappointing project with our daughter!

Discovery Kids Motorized Pottery Wheel Set
I got the one with the highest rating in its category for my granddaughter for Christmas. She was thrilled and opened it up right away so she could make something. She was concerned to find one of the parts was broken when she opened the box. The wheel itself worked well and she was able to make something on her first attempt.

Disappointed
I was really disappointed when I opened the box. First thing I noticed was that the clay was expired. Use before April, 2013, but I ordered in July. Not a huge deal considering it still feels good and I ordered extra. Then I flipped the wheel over and saw a battery slot... 4 C batteries. Nowhere on the page was that listed. A review said it comes with an AC adapter, which was nowhere in the box. I haven't even used it yet as I don't have C batteries laying around the house, and I thought the AC cord would come with it. It sucks because Amazon has like, 5 different entries for the same product. Perhaps some of the other ones had the cord included? I'm pretty disappointed.

not powerful enough
I was hoping that my son would love this gift, but it turns out that the power just isnt enough for him to make anyhting with, I wasted so much mone not only buying this but buying things to go along with it. So sad for him.

Better Than Expected Results
It was with great hesitation that I ordered the pottery wheel for a 9 year old granddaughter. I selected the Discovery model because it included a power adapter while many other brands used only batteries. I also did not want to pay a great deal for something that was likely to break quickly. The negative reviews on all of the available models made sense. How could a plastic toy provide a satisfying experience? However a real pottery wheel was not an option. I found two videos online that demonstrated how to use a toy pottery wheel. In one an adult demonstrated several techniques and in the other from a blog two young boys made clay pots. Both videos stressed the need for patience, and that was the key to our successful experience. The wheel has been in use daily since Christmas and my granddaughter has enjoyed the experience of creating at least ten pieces of pottery. Through trial and error she has perfected the size of the piece of clay and the amount of pressure to exert.

Very disappointed in the quality
This pottery wheel was a gift for my granddaughter. The box had been broken open and resealed. Inside, the pottery wheel was a bit broken and was missing a part. Because my granddaughter's birthday was the next day, my husband repaired it and we gave it to her. This plastic toy is not worth the $100. I paid for it. Way overpriced. Very disappointed in the quality. I expected better from Discovery Kids. I wish I would have returned it when I realized the box had been opened.

Must get adapter
My 9 yr old daughter received this a month ago. After reading reviews we had ordered the electric cord adapter to go with it and we are very glad we did. Running on battery power alone is not sufficient. Even with the adapter it's not super strong but if you keep the clay very wet your child can make reasonable bowls and cups. My daughter played with it for three hours the first time and I let her take it out once more and she played 2 hours, my 6 your old son too. They would play every day if I let them but it requires me to clear off our kitchen counter completely and they make a huge mess. Everything can be cleaned with water but it means I can't do anything else in my kitchen when they are working with the clay. I definitely recommend this but it is strictly for kids.
