Josef Piper is one of the most renowned Catholic theologians and philosophers of our day and he is able to make any topic, no matter how difficult or obscure easily accessible to the modern person today.

You cannot go the theologians for an understanding of faith, hope, and love. You must go to the Christian philosopher. All I can tell you is that unless you plumb the depths of these three words, you will never fully grasp the meaning of I Corinthians 13. The book is rich in material and is an invaluable aid for anyone teaching Bible class. This work of Josef Pieper, to use another man's words, is good beyond hope! Not only that, his writing is within reach of most adult readers - unlike some of the other German writers who write only for their peers. This is every person's book! Use it with his other books, The Four Cardinal Virtues and The Truth of All Things. You'll never lend this book. Never.

Ive read this book in a University Library and took notes on it, but the second time reading it (that is why I purchased it...because I liked it so much the first time) actually opened the substance of this book and developed the ideas even further. I think this book is magnificent and will be including quotations from it in a book that I am writing. As far as the delivery and quality of service; I would have to say the book was delivered on time, the condition was impeccable and every order through amazon goes smoothly. For anyone wondering whether they should read this book, I HIGHLY recommend it, but realize that what you believe about faith, hope, (belief), God, and Love will change altogether for the best due to the insights and thought provoking material Joseph Pieper concisely extrapolates in this wonderful book.

To fulfill this verse, read this book and think about it. It will fill your mind with "the most excellent way" (1 Cor 13) in life and open up the true meaning of God's command to love Him, love ourselves and our neighbor the same, and to love our enemies.

This book should be the go-to for anyone looking to deepen their understanding of the Theological Virtues! It is an essential work for fleshing out the philosophy of St. Thomas Aquinas. It helps bridge the gap between medieval scholasticism and modern thinking. Any man who can quote from both St. Thomas Aquinas and C.S. Lewis is good in my book!!!
