Obviously brighter in the daylight
I used these lights to replace my reverse lights and Center High Mount Stop Light (CHMSL) bulbs. Keeping it succinct, in day light the reverse light housing is much more obviously filled with light. At night and backing the improvement is noticeable but in the end if you are looking to a big improvement over OEM back up lighting you are probably going to have to retrofit some HID's for a substantial gain. As a replacement for the CHMSL bulbs, which were originally lower current 912 bulbs, these things now emit a piercing blast, comparatively, of light when I hit the brakes (when reflected in the usual street signs and reflective lettering). My brake lights were quite noticeable in the rearview mirrors at night, now they are obnoxiously noticeable. Thanks GM for using 12 AWG cabling, a dedicated circuit path, and a fuse for the dedicated CHMSL that could handle the extra draw with over a 50% margin.

The description is very accurate; good bulbs!
Replaced 1 back-up light on my car; While the bulb doesn't appear to be dramatically brighter when viewed by itself, when you view it side by side with a standard bulb--there is a vast difference. The difference is not so much being dramatically brighter, but it is a much whiter light and does illuminate more clearly. Example: if you have tinted windows or are using a dimmed rear view mirror, the lighting from these bulbs is much easier to discern than with the standard (somewhat yellow) backup light. If you care what the visual effect of the bulb is on your car--plan to replace these in pairs; the difference is very apparent. good product.

Slightly brighter and slightly whiter than a stock bulb. Not worth the price difference versus stock bulb.
I bought these to hopefully give my 2014 corolla backup camera a bit more light when backing up in the dark. They are only the slightest bit brighter than stock and just a slight bit whiter than stock. Not worth the extra money to buy these over the stock bulbs. If your bulbs are burned out anyway they are a good replacement. Sylvania needs to price them lower to get me to ever buy them again. On a side note I also tried out the 3157 version of this bulb and found it to have absolutely no difference in brightness at all. Don't waste your money on either of them.

Nice Product
This bulb, doesn't give off a blue cast, so don't go by the picture, it is much brighter than stock though. So a very white cover of light.Currently using for reverse bulbs on a 2013 STI.I am happy with the bulb, but I may change it for LED'sI just wanted the blue reflection through the lenses on a day. So it is doing its job quite fine.

I personally don't recommend the any Sylvania ST bulbs for use in tail/brake ...
Brightness is the same as stock. Light is whiter than stock, but not so much that it's pure white. I personally don't recommend the any Sylvania ST bulbs for use in tail/brake light because the rated hours is only 175, and you use your tail/brake light more often so you'll be replacing them every couple of months. I used this in our the back up light because the bulb is not going to be used as much so it will last longer.

Good bulbs, just not an upgrade over stock bulbs
These bulbs are hardly any different from stock. This is not to say they are poor bulbs, far from it. They arrived quickly, fit perfectly, and install easily. But I wanted an upgrade to brighter, whiter light, and I honestly can't perceive any noticeable improvement in these over the OEM bulbs. There may be *slightly* less yellow in the light output, but I think that might be me trying to convince myself. They function perfectly as replacement bulbs, but they are not an upgrade over stock. I should have just went for LEDs.

Works as advertised ...
Any lightbulb type item from this manufacturer is a quality product ... Basically, you know it's going to fit ... This particular bulb was purchased for a Mitsubishi Diamonte ... But of course it will fit many, many different vehicles ... The cost difference between this and a lesser known brand is pennies ... I don't want to mess with something that won't fit or has a short lifespan ... The difference between the LongLife and the silver star IS noticeable in brightness ....

A better non-halogen backup lights
So, this is my third model of Silver Star light bulbs. As others (1156 and 1157) I do recommend it.They do not look blue when lit up. They are crispier and slightly stronger than regular type. The only further upgrade would be putting a halogen...I used them in my two cars and both work great. As I previously said: to see full difference (between regular and Silver Star) - start the engine.
