Woodriver Wide Capacity Deluxe Doweling Jig

I've been waiting to write a review until I had a chance to really try this jig out. My first use was to drill dowel locations to edge join two boards together for a table top. The jig worked perfectly. There are no written instructions with the jig so it's a matter of setting it up, looking closely at everything, and drilling. The alignments marks on the drilling block are a little wider than I would like, but since they are recessed into the block I made a pencil mark in the bottom of the recess that I now use to align the jig with the work. Further uses have been to dowel joint table legs to front, rear, and side aprons. The jig fit not only the 3/4 inch aprons, but the 2 inch table legs as well. Overall, this is a well make jig that will perform as accurately as your alignment is. One other thing; there is a set screw in the center of the drilling block. With no instructions and no answer found on the internet, I wrote to the company asking the purpose of this set screw. They answered my inquiry within 24 hours. It is used in the factory to align the two outside clamps with the drilling block to make sure it is perfectly centered. So, don't mess with it.

Excellent tool, very easy to use

First off as much spent should have operation manual to explain different operations. I’m still thinking about sending back. Went online for a downloadable pdf at no luck. Customer service is absolutely terrible, they think we’re all pro woodworks.

In a hurry to get through a project (as usual), and not satisfied with my old worn-out Craftsman doweling jig, I went looking for a new jig halfway through the job. They were hard to find at the stores around Los Angeles. I ended up driving to a retail store 42 miles away, buying this one from Wood River. PROS: -Removable bushings for three most common size holes; bushings can be replaced when worn -Permanent drill-holes for the other size holes; these might wear but cannot be changed -Easy to use, with large handle to fully tighten clamp and easy to loosen when done CONS: -No instructions in box, mfr says there are no further instructions beyond the features listed on box. (There is a large Allen setscrew which prevents one from turning the handle-- but why?) And there appear to be two small screws on the back which hold the rear screw-bushing in place. I assume that may be related to performing a maintenance adjustment on the rear clamp plate position if needed, but it's not documented. -SO: I got the jig three days ago and drilled many holes since then. Very easy to set up each operation and I expect it to last a long time.
