Very good for money.
Works well, silent, reliable, easy to set up. The manual an instructions are poor and defective, this is a point to improve. I use in RAID 1 configuration with ExFAT file system.

Dead after 3 years. Error 0x80070015. $400 in the toilet.
2.17.24 Not connecting anymore. Shows 0x80070015 code. Definitely the last time I buy any LaCie product. Ive had plenty of connectivity issues over 3 years on Windows 10 and now she finally stopped responding after very little use frankly. Maybe once a week for 15 minutes. When your emergency backup drive fails before the computer you're using everyday 10-12 hours per day you know its a junker. What a waste of $400. 12.23.2020: Just a quick warning. LaCie 2big RAID 8TB is not a Thunderbolt3 device. Its USB 3.X only. Also, it has ***no built-in encryption.*** which is very surprising. I had trouble on install. The RAID Manager would not install on my brand new DELL XP15 9500. I had to use an older Windows 10 computer to set up RAID 1. So far the HDD is quiet when not reading or writing, with some minor noise when reading and writing but not an issue at all. Fan noise is noticeable but not horrible. Will update review as necessary.

External Hard Drive built for Macs
My wife is thrilled with the LaCie 2big RAID 16TB External Hard Drive! Using a Mac, the setup and configuration were incredibly straightforward, saving me a lot of time. The speed is impressive for an external drive, making it a breeze to store and access large photo collections. My wife and I both love it for easily managing and accessing our precious memories. Highly recommended for Mac users wanting easy and quick storage for photos and videos.

DO NOT INSTALL LACIE RAID DESKTOP MANAGER
I thought LaCie was more reputable which is why I elected to buy this for my RAID solution. What a terrible mistake on my part. DO NOT under any circumstance install the LaCie RAID Desktop Manager software (which you are PROMPTED to install by the setup software that comes on the device). This software is not compatible with the latest versions of macOS and will kill your computer. How badly? Can't boot. Can't boot into safe mode. Can't boot into single user mode and try to stop it from killing the machine on boot. Only option was to restore from a Time Machine backup for about 20 hours. After a week I thought I would give it another shot, because WTF is the point of having RAID storage without any management software to keep me apprised of issues? Same exact failure, restoring again from backup. LaCie needs to pull this software immediately. I'm sending notices to Apple as well about this so that hopefully they can take LaCie to task for this. Apple blocks everything these days that isn't actually harmful at all, yet allows junk like this to cripple a Mac. Amazing. The best part is, LaCie has absolutely no support. Not that it would be of any help.

Photographers perspective
It’s a noisy drive. Even when not directly accessing. It’s fans and discs run loud. I would suggest mounting it behind or below the desk. Having it on the desktop is audible. That being said , I work with music and use it to directly access stored shoots and work directly from the drive in Capture one and Photoshop. It’s worth the extra money for the 440mb/s read write speed.

Perfect replacement for older externals
I've put the contents of 12 older externals + backed up my iMac on here and. Still have 90% open space! Excellent value for the cost.

Failed repeatedly during setup to configure as Raid 1.
In poorly written English, the tech support sent me a link and an advertisement. Both useless. How many more hours of my time will be wasted?

Loud, Slow, Always Ejecting on it's own, and so many other issues - Absolutely the worst drive
I have purchased and used my share of external hard drives in my 20 years working in the video production industry and this is the the worst drive I have ever owned. It's loud, slow, randomly ejecting and rebooting my computer and so many more issues.

'The specs on the box say this will work with "latest version of macOS 10.12 or later' - but It would not work with my mac OS 13.4 and after days on the phone to its Support line and Apple Support to seek a firmware update/fix the LacCie support admitted it would not work on my OS and there was no fix yet available to make the claims made on the box true. Had to return the product.

I've used Lacie 2big drives before for external backup, using a Raid 1 configuration. The previous 6 TB unit (3 TB in Raid 1) lasted about 8 years - pretty good mileage - with no problems. Finally 1 of the drives bit the dust; the other is still working, which allowed me to transfer all the "old" data onto the new drive. I used Chronosync to do that. Overall, I'm happy with the quality and useability of the system. One thing to keep in mind - you can't daisy chain this particular unit. If you want to do so, then buy the model with the external ports, on top of the hard drive.

Good speed, good price. Nice for video editing.

Support from Lacie has been a very time consuming and difficult process. This is the 4th Lacie HD that has failed in under 5 years of light use. Frustrating. Get a G-Drive instead.
