A supplement cocktail to limit negative effects of alcoholic ones
Drinkwel is unique in that its mechanism is prevention, with the goal of allowing enjoyment of alcohol while mitigating some of its risks. I can verify on a personal level that the supplement works, but I also am a compulsive researcher about what I put into my body. I thought I'd share the results of some of my reading below. While possibly the most important invention in human history, alcohol can have devastating effects on your body, particularly your liver and central nervous system. Much of the damage is due to direct free radical induction from the alcohol itself, which can set off a feedback loop of damage within your liver that if unchecked leads to scar tissue and fatty change, and ultimately cirrhosis. What the creators of Drinkwel have tried to do is create a product that mitigates some of the above by three mechanisms: 1) N-acetylcysteine, or NAC. It is a vetted therapy for overdoses with acetaminophen (Tylenol) to prevent the free radical induction (and consequent liver failure) that can be seen with more severe cases. It stands to reason that it would have a similar protective effect with alcohol, though it has not been as reliably studied in this context. A recommendation to the manufacturers for future labels is to actually specify the amount of NAC in the supplement, instead of listing it with an asterisk as part of a proprietary blend, to help match supplementation to quantity of alcohol consumed more reliably. 2) Vitamin deficiencies. With alcohol usage, especially long term, a number of nutritional deficiencies can accumulate, with the most severe consequence being a condition known as Wernicke Korsakoff, a potentially irreversible syndrome that occurs as a result of absent thiamine intake. The creators of Drinkwel are clearly aware of this association, providing 7000% of the recommended daily intake of B1. Because it is water soluble, most of the excess thiamine is excreted in your urine. Other common deficiencies that can result are B12 and folate, causing a characteristic anemia due to bone marrow suppression. In the same vein, the creators supplement B12 in spades, with 5000% of your daily recommended dose. The folate is in folic acid form, which is more ambiguous as far as health effects, so would suggest a dietary source for this one (ie. green leafy vegetables). 3) Herbal supplements. This is probably the aspect of this supplement that is the least straightforward, at least as far as peer reviewed data. Milk thistle increases liver metabolism, and may improve liver function in the short term, though there is not much convincing data for long term effects. Rhodiola, artichoke, green tea extract, acerola, bupleurum, Schissandra, Reishi, goji and DHM leaf have not been studied in the context of alcohol intake, and although they have been researched in the peer reviewed literature, much of their supportive data is anecdotal. Overall a great supplement, with ingredients based on a mixture of strong science and anecdotal alternative medicine. I would suggest that if you anticipate a night of alcoholic intake, to take the supplement before the alcohol is in your bloodstream and not waiting till the morning after, as much of the damage will have already occurred by then. Also might consider taking adjuvant N-acetylcysteine, as it is likely one of its more effective components, and is usually also available here on Amazon. For myself personally, I have found the best combination to be at least 3 before and 3 after. I try to titrate dose to consumption. Salud!

They never leave my side...and they DO work!
I've kept my vitamin cabinet stocked with Drinkwel for years now, ever since I got a sample in a subscription box about 4-5 years ago. I'm in my mid-30s and no way can I drink the way I did in my 20s, and be okay the next day. And, I do love my wine and beer. I drink maybe 1-2x/week (unless I'm on vacation, then all bets are off), but I tend to drink more than I intended when I do just cause I'm having fun. I normally wake up with a pounding headache, severe nausea and dehydration, and want nothing than to stay in bed all day. Nowadays it takes me a good day or two to recover. On bad days, I throw up repeatedly. But honestly, ever since I started taking these, I feel SO much better the next day, and actually functional. I still feel dehydrated, but that's my fault for not drinking enough water. The nausea and headache are gone when taken as directed (3 supplements before drinking and 3 before bed with lots of water). To top it off, I also take it with their liver supplement, Revil, and two electrolyte caps (also from the same brand). I also love how the ingredients are all natural, just vitamins and herbs. Now, whenever I know I'm going to drink or am on vacation, I will bring a whole bottle of this. It's gotten to the point where I feel uneasy if I'm going to drink, and I don't have these on hand. My friends, and boyfriend who have tried this were all surprised as to how well it worked. It's well worth the money and highly recommended if you're a drinker!

MIRACLES WORKERS but they will not make up for lack of sleep or lack of water!!
I am super skeptical of products like this (and I literally never write reviews) but these have saved my ass so many times!!!! They actually work. Like now that I've taken them correctly (as in actually remembering to take 3 before drinking and 3 after drinking) I have not woken up with a hangover since starting them. I'm only 24 and I had been waking up with horrible hangovers after only drinking like 2 glasses of wine and I was so frustrated because I love my wine!!! This product allows me to drink as much as my little lush heart desires without having to worry about the hangover. Granted these pills will not make up for lack of sleep or lack of water. I've been drinking until 3 am when I have to wake up at 8 for work and I still wake up tired as hell but literally with 0 hangover when I take these. You still need to hydrate or you will be super thirsty the next day and you might have a slight headache from dehydration but that's an easy fix. I personally thought this product was a bit pricey since they suggest taking about 6 pills in a night (3 before drinking and 3 after drinking) but I read good reviews and thought I would give them a chance and I am so glad I did!!! These are worth every penny and they feel like my prized possession. I will definitely repurchase once my bottle runs out!! Sorry to ramble on but I seriously have too many good things to say about this product and I'm hoping some other poor soul like myself with horrible hangovers might stumble upon this review and give this product a chance to change their social drinking life!!!

Seems to work, but taking after drinking is inconvenient
I noticed Amazon wasn't selling Pretoxx anymore so I went ahead and bought Drinkwel since it got so many good reviews. I recently went to Vegas the other weekend and did some heavy drinking so it was the perfect opportunity to try it. I'm 5'6" and 140lbs and can drink quite a bit for my size. When I remembered to take two capsules of Drinkwel when getting back to the hotel at 4am, it seemed to work the next day. I can't say I had any big hangover symptoms, but I did have a slight head ache one of the days but that could be just because I drank so much. Anyhow, I had no body aches or anything of that sort and I had energy to go about the day in Vegas so I would say that was a success. I subtracted one star because Drinkwel directions say you are supposed to take it after you are done drinking. That is an inconvenience(Pretoxx allows you to take before, during or after drinking and it works flawlessly). I'm not sure how effective it is if you take Drinkwel before you drink but that could be something to try next. Per pill, Drinkwell is cheaper than Pretoxx, so if it still works while taking it before drinking, then I may just stick with it. Recommended! Update 08/12/2013: I tried varying the dosage of the Drinkwel because I wasn't sure two capsules were enough since I did get a slight head ache last time. So this past weekend I tried three capsules after drinking heavily(friends from out of town were visiting) and it worked great! No hangover effect whatsoever the following day. Conclusion: I would say three capsules of Drinkwel are equal in strength to two pills of Pretoxx. I get the same affect with those dosages. So after discovering this, Drinkwel and Pretoxx are the exact same value because: Drinkwel has 90 capsules and Pretoxx has 30. Drinkwel requires you to take 3 capsules to get the full effect and Pretoxx requires 2 pills. Drinkwel costs $40 and Pretoxx costs $20. Therefore you get 30 full dosages with Drinkwel at $40 and you get 15 full dosages with Pretoxx at $20. Only difference is you have to cough up more money at one time when buying Drinkwel. I recommend either.

Lifesaver
Great product, used it for years. One a day keeps the Tylenol away.

Not a cure-all, but definitely helps
I came across this product, as I suspect many have, during a day of feeling absolutely terrible from over-drinking ("I'm never drinking again", etc.). I figured - vitamins, makes sense that it might help, plus money back guarantee no questions asked, I didn't really have much to lose and the desire to avoid feeling so awful is a pretty powerful motivator especially in the moment. I'm generally pretty skeptical and consider things like this to be snake-oil to a large extent, but the reviews were very positive so I have it a shot. At this point I am on my 2nd bottle, and these are my conclusions thus far: -This WILL NOT completely prevent hangovers. As noted by others, this is not what it is claiming to do. In my experience however, it has greatly lessened the misery. I am prone to severe nausea from hangovers - I have not experienced anything beyond "moderate discomfort" while taking drinkwel. You will still know that you had too much to drink the night before, but you will feel less like you want to die. -In my experience, it is not necessary to take 3 daily + 3 more if drinking. I have found just taking some while you are drinking and the next morning to be sufficient. I did start out using the recommended 3 + 3 regimen, but found that the difference was only marginal and given that it is somewhat expensive, decided to economize. Try both ways, your milage may vary. -It smells terrible and will make your breath smell like old people. No way around that, but its a compromise I'm willing to make. -Pro-tip for greater effectiveness - DRINK LOTS OF WATER. This should go without saying, but I suspect that some people who have tried this and not found it effective thought that it would be a "magic pill" and they could disregard standard hangover-avoidance practices. You cannot, that isn't how your body works. So drink lots of water. If you don't do this already, that by itself will save you a great deal of misery, but as someone who has already exhausted all the traditional safeguards I can also tell you that this product/supplement will also noticeably improve your symptoms. -The company seems to stand behind its product. I was satisfied and had no reason to ask for a refund, but supposedly they will refund your whole purchase price, no questions asked, you don't have to send back the unused product. Overall, I would definitely recommend this to anyone trying to lessen the severity of hangovers. It is somewhat expensive, but when I think about the amount of money I have spent (greasy food, medicines for headache, stomach ache, etc.) and hours upon hours wasted being totally unable to function and wasting days of my life, it seems like quite a bargain.

Didn’t work for me
I’m planning a resort beach vacation very soon where I’m sure I’ll be drinking plenty of adult beverages. I bought this product to give it a “test run” on St. Patrick’s Day, hoping to avoid the inevitable ruined next day that comes with a hangover. No dice. I took three capsules about an hour before we went out for drinks. We ended up going to a few places with some friends, so I had several drinks that night, a couple shots, a couple beers, mixed drinks….surefire recipe for a hangover. Here’s hoping these things work, I thought. When we got home, I took three more capsules and a full glass of water and went to bed. Next morning I woke up feeling as crappy as I would have without taking any Drinkwels. Headache, fatigue, queasy. Lasted ALL DAY. I’m disappointed, but good to know before my weeklong vacation. On to try other things that hopefully actually work.

Most effective hangover remedy I have tried!
I bought this product a few times, of my own volition. After my most recent purchase, the co-owner of drinkwel contacted me to thank me for purchasing drinkwel and asked me to submit an honest review of his product. He offered to send me a free bottle of the product whether I submitted a review or not -- not as a condition of me providing a review. I believe that me buying the product more than once shows that I believe in drinkwel. I am getting older and don't drink that often. When I do, I typically get pretty bad hangovers. I tried drinkwel the first time in 2015 and typically use it for vacations, camping trips, football games, weddings, or other times when I may be consuming more than just a few drinks. When drinking more than I should and/or drinking for multiple days in a row (typically vacations), drinkwel seems to be a life-saver. After using drinkwel as directed, I have had almost non-existent hangover symptoms the following day. In addition to using drinkwel, I also try to stay hydrated and use hydration vitamins, such as Toniq or LYTEshow. The combination of these really seems to make a difference. There are various articles and studies related to the ingredients in drinkwell. Drinkwel has a fairly large list of ingredients, so I'm honestly not 100% sure which of the ingredients are actually having the positive effect. If I did know, for sure, which ingredients were providing the most relief, I'm not certain that buying the individual ingredients would be any more cost-efficient, though. My best proof, however, is how I feel when I take it compared to how I feel when I don't take it. My only two issues with drinkwel are the smell and the price. You take six capsules per day. At $37.95 for 90 capsules, that is 43 cents per capsule, or $2.53 per day. If you are someone who drinks a lot, every day, that could get expensive. For someone who uses this product for vacations or other occasional over-indulgences, I think that the benefits are worth the cost. This product also smells worse than anything I have ever put into my body. For not feeling like death the next day, though, not breathing through my nose while I take it is a small compromise.
