1 year later STILL a big hit - 3 1/2 yr old girl & 2 1/2 yr old boy
Santa had this thing all set up for our near-3-year-old on Christmas morn. Both she and her 19-month-old brother have enjoyed it so much, as well as all our holiday guests and friends since. We got this for an extremely good price on one of Amazon's super deal days, plus we had free shipping. We got it at almost 75% off. But I would have paid full price had I known just how much my kids would love it.We have pop-ups that we put up occasionally for the kids to play in. They rough and tumble, and the things fall over. This play cottage has a metal, more durable frame with zip-up canvas to make it stand on its own. Yes, it can be knocked over. But only if it's intentional. A stiff breeze would send a pop-up flying whereas this thing would absolutely stay put.I love that it stores inside itself. It basically comes in two large frames, one slightly smaller than the other. When you want to store it away for the day (we keep our's up all the time now), you can just slide the slightly smaller frame into the bigger one. Voila!Adorable features: dutch door with magnetic clasps - the kids LOVE this feature, several windows, one of which has a curtain you can Velcro open, a chimney from which you can see all the way thru. And the attention to detail on the fabric - there are roses and vines entwining the roof, part of the floor is made to look like hardwood while the other is supposed to be carpet.I highly recommend this toy. I am not sure if you need all the furniture that goes with it. It came with an adorable stove, which my kids use to cook their Mr. Potato Heads or stash sippy cups for hiding, but even empty, they will drag their own toys in just to play in a somewhat private place.Excellent toy! We are extremely satisfied! Also great for role-modeling after mom and dad, so I consider highly educational and great for imagination.

Full of imagination and fun
I bought this specifically for my 2 YO daughter, but my 6 YO son plays with it as much if not more than she does. I've been looking for a large "doll house" that they could play with, but could never see paying over $100 for them. I saw this, and not only is it big enough for them to sit in, it's light weight so they can move it pretty easily. It is rather "girly" (lots of pastels and flowers) but if they toned down the pastels and made it a little mroe unisex, I think more boys would really like to play with it too.The assembly is pretty easy as long as you can follow the instructions. There were a few times my husband and I were a bit flumoxed, but when we looked at the directions, it was pretty well explained. The engineering of the house is really ingenious. None of the support bars show on the outside. Both sides are zippered envelopes with liberal use of velcro to keep everything where it belongs. The bars are also not the flimsy "pop-up" steel suspension everyone seems to be using these days, but actuall square aluminum tubing. I doubt it would hold up well to a 6 YO sitting on top of it, but other than that, it's a pretty strong frame. All in all, I think this was one of the best purchases I've made for them. Heck, I want to play with it!

Our girl's own little house - probably her #1 favorite toy ever
What's amazing about the Rose Petal Cottage is that, 2 years later, our little girl has not tired of it yet. Unlike a doll house this is HER little house inside our house. The other amazing thing is that the house actually lasted for 2 years and it looks as good and as undamaged today as it did the day we assembled it. I can't think of any other toy of hers that survived for 2 years. When linked together, the 2 halves form her little corner of privacy and it can be in the middle of the living room. She and a friend can bring in two little princess chairs, close the the door and they can play inside for hours, watching TV through the window or making breakfast for their dollies or for themselves. The possibilities are endless and you don't really need the related accessories. The little stove that came with the house saw some play but it's mostly other toys of hers that she brings into the cottage. One word about the initial assembly. It's not easy. Or at least it was 'mission impossible' for me. I needed help after I set up the frame. It was 'mission challenging' for my wife who correctly put the rest together. With my help, following her directions, of course.I give the Rose Petal Cottage an enthusiastic 5 stars. My little girl is a happier girl because of it.

Every little girl's dream (and mom's too!)
I purchased this for my daughter's 3rd birthday and have finally found something that she loves for more than a few minutes. She can't wait to get home and play in her "house" and it's even big enough for her 6 year old sister to play in as well!We have the house open to a corner in her room so it offers her more room to play, but still gives it the cozy cottage feel.I love it because in the morning she jumps out of bed and plays in her house versus waking the entire house up! Definitely recommend and the price on Amazon was amazing...$[...]!I'm glad that I did not purchase the extra items that came in it such as the washer sink and nursery set as I think it may be too crowded the way that we have it set up, but she does have a little doll cradle and the stove inside so it's everything she needs to play house. We even will sometimes set up a portable DVD player inside so she can watch her own movies in peace.

Just perfect!
I bought this for my 18 month old daughter for Christmas. I wasn't so sure she'd really "get it" since the box said "for ages 3&up." She saw it on Christmas morning and gasped! It's much cuter in person than pictured on the box. It's now in our living room, and she plays in it every day, many times a day. She loves opening and closing the door, peeping through the windows, and "cooking" on the stove. I even put her other toy table and chair in it, and she has a blast. This was a big hit, I shouldn't have worried that she was too little. On the other hand, I can see why a 5 or 6 year old may not be interested in the cottage. It's pretty small, and even my 32" daughter has to duck through the door! I'm going to say a good age recommendation is 18m-4. (And there are no small parts to worry about!)I'm giving this 5 stars, it's just perfect.
