This dome is great. It is extremely well made and comes with a wide variety of adapters for all types of hoses and even includes extras in case you want to drill-out another hole or two in the lid. I have not permanently installed mine, but even just having it dry-fitted on top of my sump has made a big difference in the humidity in my basement. I will retest radon once I have it fully installed (my levels have tested 2.1-3.1 before this lid, so that's not my main concern). I primarily bought this to just clean-up the sump pit area and protect children from getting into it. When I originally wrote this, prior to publishing, I marked this lid as 4 stars, knocking one star off for the price being so high. Then I thought about why it's so high and I changed my mind. 1) I'd imagine this isn't a product flying off of the shelves, so the low demand deems a higher cost to keep their business going and, even more importantly, 2) this product is made so well that you will never have to rebuy it. This is one of the rare products in our lives that is not built in such a way that forces you to replace it at some point. This thing is built like a tank and I doubt you could damage it if you tried. With those 2 things in mind, the price makes sense to me. All in all, this product is great to accomplish the following goals: 1) Provide an attractive, clean installation for your sump pit area 2) Reduce basement humidity 3) Reduce basement Radon 4) Installing sump ventilation (which relates to 2 and 3) If any or all of those are important to you, then I'd say this thing is worth biting the bullet on the asking price and going for it. Other sump liners/lids that you find are trash compared to this.

The last Basin/sump cover you will ever need.
I used the The Original Radon/Sump Dome, (Jackel Engineered Products) to replace my steel plate cover that had "disintegrated" and unknown to me dropped chunks of metal into the sewage basin where they got sucked up into the lift pump... jammed the impeller and evidently damaged the pump motor. What a great basin cover. I have a 24" diameter basin, and the 28" dome, (made from injection molded polyethylene structural foam), fit nicely over the entire basin rim. I used 1/4" tapcons to secure the dome to the concrete floor. Because I have a 24" basin, there was little room for other concrete anchors, but remember, the 100% pure silicon is what seals and really keeps the dome in place. Because there are 12 mounting holes in the dome, the tapcons worked perfectly and didn't break through the thin concrete around the outside of the basin. The 18" insert cover comes with 8 stainless steel screws and a heavy rubber gasket to provide a great seal. The dome came with a whole series of flanges, seals and gaskets to take care of any vent and discharge sizes, with the ability to add additional holes to the sides to accommodate different configurations, (and radon vent if needed). The rubber plug for the wires looks like it could accommodate up to 5 wires and seals nicely. Very pleased with the thought put into this product. Even though a little higher in price than other covers, The Original Radon/Sump Dome is of a very good quality/construction, and will probably outlast the life of your house.

Seals sump pit well
The cover seems well made however the placement of the discharge pipe and vent did not match my configuration. The lid is restricted to a maximum 3 inch vent pipe. My radon system is a high volume solution which uses 4 inch vent pipe. The smaller 3 inch pipe is meant for high pressure systems. Home Depot has a reducer however the smaller opening will place a little more strain on our 4 inch vent fan which could shorten it’s life and use more electric. I am probably over thinking this! One more negative - silicone does not stick to the base so even though you bolt it down to the floor the seal seems like it could fail. I wish they included a rubber seal like they do for the lid.

Broken and missing parts
I recieved this and the gasket is broken and it is missing half of the screws. It appears this may have been pre owned. Very disappointed.

Great product, does the job.
Went with this product after reading all of the good reviews over the cheaper version from a local retailer. As noted in the other reviews it has very solid construction. Couple items to note though: - For me it did not reduce the humidity levels in the area of the sump lid. I left a humidistat in the area and it did not affect the readings after installation (did not affect the reading more that 1% in RH). - As far as the musty smell in the area of the sump pit I did notice an improvement (hard to quantify this one though). - As far as radon mitigation I was impressed with the improvement. Although the number of days tested for each test was different, 7 for the first 3 for the second, I saw a large improvement in radon levels. For the first test it was 9.6 +/- 0.7 pCi/l. The second test after installing this product it was 4.9 +/- 0.3 pCi/L. - It has decreased the number of bugs that I've noticed in the basement (actually have found a couple dead bugs that can no longer access their water source).

The cover pretty much does what I needed it to do
The cover pretty much does what I needed it to do. The only issue with it is it is hard to put the lid on for 2 reasons. First the rubber gasket is pretty floppy and it is hard to get it to stay in place so you can line up the holes on the cover , the gasket and the base itself. The other problem is that as I was putting the bolts in if you pressed to hard finding the right spot it pushed the threaded insert piece right out of the base and into the water. Nothing more frustrating then having put in 8 or 9 of the bolts to hear the splash of one of the threaded inserts hitting the water. A little glue on the gasket and on the under side of the inserts worked like a charm and putting the cover on or off takes a minute at most. It would have been nice if that was incorporated into the design. Similarly putting the grommet for the cord in the side of the base instead of the removable top would make more sense so it was easier to pull the cover for maintenance and less wear and tear. Overall it was the best cover I could find for the job.
