Dog Heaven

I have bought numerous copies of this book over the 30 years that it's been out. Every time someone close to me looses a dog, I send them a copy. Every time I lose a dog, I read it over and over again and it brings me a lot of comfort. It's so beautifully written and illustrated. It's the perfect book for adults and children who's dog has gone to doggie heaven.

This book is a marvelous source of comfort for anyone who has lost a dog. The artwork is bright and cheerful, depicting various ways that animals who have crossed The Bridge are tenderly cared for. They are shown enjoying many positive activities and have been restored to health. The message is that all is well with pets while they await a reunion with those who loved them. I have purchased several copies for friends who have list their dogs. And I believe there is also a version written for owners who have lost their cats.

This book is beautifully written & illustrated and helps bring emotions to surface. Laughing and crying are both cleansing and therapeutic and a part of the healing process. That's the genius and beauty of this book Like most adults, children can not grasp the concept of Heaven and the mystery of what happens when we die. I've given this book to countless friends & family members of all ages over the past 20 + years. The only thing that offends me here are those people who give this book negative reviews based on their concept of Heaven, death, and scriptural. There is no mention of scriptural soundness in the advertisement of the book. I stand by this book and give it a solid 5 out of 5.

Regardless of how old you are, this book will bring comfort. I was given this book when I was in my 50's. Now, I am in my 70's and continue to gift it because I know of the comfort that it brings to young and old. My most recent book was given to a family of 2 adults and 4 children. Everyone loved it!

If you or someone you know has had a beloved dog die buy this book. Then picture how happy and pain free your baby(doggie)is now.

This sweet children's book by Cynthia Rylant was given to my family after the loss of our precious Golden Retriever who was like our child. It meant so much to us that I have purchased it several times for friends when their pets have crossed the Rainbow Bridge. It is a simple and comforting illustrated story about a pet's afterlife, particularly a good way to explain the situation to a child. It is a book I treasure and I hope those I have bought it for have found comfort in it and love it as well. I highly recommend Dog Heaven.

A beloved family dog recently passed. Sharing Cynthia Rylant’s classic book will hopefully provide comfort to the children & adults that lost their best friend!

Overall the book is cute for a little one experiencing the loss of pet...however... It only talks of a dog as being a "he" and our dog was a "she", so that was weird for our son. The book talks of kids going to heaven with the dogs which was an uncomfortable read, as well as mentioning that the dog comes down to check on you then leaves again. There were some cute concepts like all dogs sleep on clouds and all dogs on earth that didn't have homes or weren't loved are now loved. It opens the door for more questions, which can be healthy - I just wish I had read the book first to be prepared for answering those questions. My son is 5 and very curious, so there were lots of questions. The book itself is very sturdy and bigger than I expected which was nice. Overall it's a good purchase, but my opinion is to read it first before sharing with your child.

This is a wonderful book for children and adults alive who are grieving the loss of a dog.It is wonderfully illustrated. Great present for someone who has recently lost their best friend!

Purchased this book decades ago when our first dog was just a puppy. It has been of great comfort once that dog passed.Our family has purchased many copies over the years to give as gifts to friends that have lost their dogs. It is always appreciated. Lovely vibrant illustrations in the book.
