Want to wake up to a carpet of dead mosquitoes? This is the tool that can make it happen!
Just like the bug zapper grandma used to have! This thing works! We were being sucked dry by mosquitoes at the end of the summer and it was just intolerable to be outside. I got this a few days later got it hung out on my back porch and proceeded to massacre about two mosquitoes per second for the next three weeks. You could see a gray carpet of dead mosquito carcasses under this thing every morning. It was a glorious sight! It took out plenty of nasty cut worm moths as well. Highly effective almost frighteningly so. When I stood outside and watched it, it sounded like machine gun fire as the mosquitoes were flying into the bars. Seems to be plenty powerful to roast even the fattest moths. You get what you pay for. It is a little more expensive then the XYZ brands, but I would consider that an investment because you’ll get to use this for more than one year. Truly was a plug-in play system very easy to set up. Simply plug it in and you’re good to go. The outside cage seems plenty sturdy and the slits are small enough and far enough away from the electrical element to make sure you don’t accidentally touch it with your finger. My only minor complaint is that I had to unplug it each day and gently brush the dead moth carcasses off the electrical bars with a small twig by reaching through the safety great. After I got all of that cleaned off and my stick out and away, I plugged it back in for another day of reading my backyard of the insect hordes.

Rebiew 1 Acre Glowtron Electric Zapper
Nice product, works well but lacks a switch to turn it on or off , only plug snd plsy and unplug to stop It will be a better product if the company or the manufacturer incorporate a dusk to dawn as well

Worth its weight in gold!
Update 2016 We've had it three years now and have been thrilled to have it. I have replaced the bulb only once. It's tremendously improved my summer nights because I can stay outdoors in the evenings now without bathing in deet first. ________________________________________________ Mosquitos love me. I joke that people don't buy citronella candles, they invite me to a party instead and all the mosquitos will come to me and leave them alone. I've tried millions of things to repel them. I always have citronella candles, many of them, and Deep Woods Off, and other bug sprays and things to keep the mosquitos away. I live in a cold and dry climate and they still always find me and I get lots of bites. Nothing has worked very well. We just purchased this Flowtron bug zapper and started it 3 nights ago. We have it on a timer to come on at dusk and turn off at dawn. It's bliss! I love it. I don't have to move and light a million candles and position them around my lawn chair. I can just go outside when I want to and come in when I want to. It is awesome. We're still in May so I know there will be more next month, but so far, no mosquito bites!!! I'm so glad that we got this! I'll update again later in the summer. ------------------------------- Update I still love this! Still no mosquito bites for me!!! I've been so so happy that we got this. I still haven't cleaned it yet, but I plan to soon. The only negative issue we've had so far is that when it's raining a lot, the zapper will start zapping nearly continuously. The electricity seems to be arcing to dead bugs that are still stuck to the outside. Once I clean it, I imagine that problem will cease. This is a great addition to our yard. The light is quite bright and so to avoid annoying our neighbors, we've hung it below the fence line. That means the top of ours is only 4 1/2 feet off the ground. It still works very well. ------------------------------- Update 2 Still very happy with it. I've found that it definitely helps to use the Octenol Mosquito Attractant Cartridges as well. If we replace them every 45 days or so, we're fine. Cleaning the bug zapper was fairly easy. I needed a flat-head screwdriver and a Phillips head screwdriver (kinda silly that they have two screws of each kind) to disassemble it. I used a kitchen scrub brush (like for cleaning dishes) to scrub all the dead bugs off. Then, I reassembled it. It didn't take long at all.

Effective
Works great, well-built and took care of our mosquito issue 100%, which was the reason we purchased this. Sadly though, it also attracted the praying mantises that inhabited our garden and zapped four. They are attracted to the blue light. Also noticed spider activity was higher around the light because of the critters drawn to it. Five star due to effectiveness and we will hopefully figure out the praying mantis situation.

A wild display at dusk!
I do have a valid answer to the question of why you wouldn't want to put this in your house or near where you will be enjoying outside space, as so many have asked, but let me start at the beginning. Now, I've only had this one night, but I had to write this review. I will come back and add to it down the road, but I had to share. I bought the model for a 1 acre space. I live in a forest and the mosquitoes are intense all day and into the evening this time of year. I had a different kind of bug zapper about 5 years ago and it really did nothing at all. I was skeptical, but the excellent reviews persuaded me and I'm so glad I listened! I plugged it in at about noon and because I read the reviews, I knew not to expect much until dusk. Sure enough, as other reviewers stated, there was a zap here and there in the daytime but not much else. The mosquitoes were out and about since we have mixed shade and sun, and I even got a few bites while putting up the the bracket to hold it. But they just weren't attracted to it in the daytime, so I hoped that nightfall would bring a different story. Sure enough, at dusk the light went absolutely crazy with zapping those little vampires, and this went on for a good hour or more before it slowed down and eventually stopped as it became fully dark. I looked at the remains, and it was all just a big pile of mosquitoes, no moths or beneficial critters that I could see, just mosquito parts everywhere. To answer the question that many have asked, I think there is a very valid reason WHY they say you don't really want to put it in your house or near where you want to be. The burning bug smell is really, really bad, and even came in through our windows though we are quite some distance from it. If you ever had a bug get stuck in those halogen torchiere lamps, you will know what I mean but multiply the intensity of that by the thousands of mosquitoes zapped, and you will want to be prepared. Tonight, I will close my windows. Totally worth it, but I would close your windows at dusk and don't plan your family barbecue under the light. Especially one this size, the 1 acre size is a pretty big unit. It is also very bright, so you might not want it near a bedroom window. You also might want to be considerate of where you put it for your neighbors comfort between the smell and the brightness. I didn't have it on at dawn, because I want to put it in a better place away from bedroom windows, but I'm sure it would have done the same thing then. It killed an amazing amount of bugs in a short time, and it was like a mosquito barbecue out there. Not a good thing to get a whiff of, but completely worth it for the job it does! This is great, and it works just like it says. I used the attractant as well. If anything changes, I will add more to this soon.
