Exceeded my expectations
I was extremely satisfied with this book on three levels. First, the research and use of primary sources was excellent. Second, the author made the story personal. I feel like someone with a passing interest in the Civil War would enjoy it, it's a straight forward read for college students, and fellow researchers (I fall into this category) appreciate the detail, care, and effort. As a descendant of a few of the families of the 35th regiment (Company E), I really feel like the soldiers' viewpoints were accurately represented and their personal histories respected and elevated. Third, on behalf of my family, we're happy to have our family's regiment's history preserved in a historically accurate, and yet sensitive, literary work of art.

Want to know what life was like for a Confederate soldier? Read this!
Two of my ancestors served in the 35th. This book is incredible, telling the story of the 35th Georgia in gripping, personal detail from the time the unit was formed, through it's many famous battles, until it's surrender at Appomattox. I only wish I could personally thank the author for his devotion and extreme attention to detail. A most expertly written and researched book. My highest recommendation!

Facinating and riveting
Thoroughly enjoyed this book especially the segment on Point Lookout Union Prison Camp. It gave me chills that three of my own family suffered through this and were treated so horribly by a group that had the ability to give them food and care and chose not to. It was great to see the service records and read about the battles in which the men from my family participated. Thank you, Mr. Fox, for your dedication to this Confederate Unit and their bravery.

Outstanding effort
An excellent regimental history. Great detail and a firm understanding of tactics. The home front is not forgotten and a strong picture of the real Johnny Reb arises.
