Body Solid Neck Pad
I started doing squats on my Smith Machine and at first it was not heavy. As I used it I started going up in weight and quickly had to use a rolled up towel because the bar would hurt my neck and shoulders.I purchased this mostly because it matches my Body Solid 7 Series machine but I knew the quality wold be second to none like it is. I can put even more weight than originally was hurting me and feel absolutely nothing. My bet is that I can triple or more the weight that started hurting my neck and shoulders and still won't even feel the bar. The pad is thick and easily goes on and comes off for other exercises using a fat strip of stitched velcro.Trust me this thing is well worth the cost by far especially since this was the cheapest I found it and will work beyond what you may think. This is no cheap vinyl wrap over crappy foam. You could beat someone with it haha. Top Quality from a top brand name and as with all their products this is no cheap imitator this is the example all should follow if they can.

Velcro too strong, causes nylon fabric to tear eventually
I noticed tonight that there is a large tear on the inside, next to the soft part of the velcro. This is clearly from the strain put on the inside nylon when having to open the velcro to remove the pad from the bar. Since I do squats about once a week, and bought this in early January, it seems that this issue has happened after only ~20-25 cycles of applying then removing the pad from the bar. There are two choices to fix this: either use a stronger type of nylon (more expensive and harder to sew), or use a less 'grippy' velcro. The 'grippiness' of velcro is otherwise known as the 'peel strength', which is measured in PSI. (Google is a wonderful thing.) Anyway, since the velcro is only really needed to hold the pad on the bar, I strongly recommend for the manufacturer to use a velcro with a lower peel strength, as otherwise the pad itself works great and the other materials are well suited for the gym.

Alternative use
I'm actually using this to wrap the bottom bar of a reclining foldable lawn chair, rather than to wrap a weight bar.Without this pad the bar at the bottom would dig into my legs when reclined, making it uncomfortable (I'm tall so my legs rest on the bar, rather than my feet). This pad seems well made for it's originally intended purpose.I found it a little firmer than I would have liked for resting my legs on, but overall still a great improvement over having the bar directly against my legs.

Finally the real thing: 3 cm or 1.1/4 in THICKNESS
3 cm or 1.1/4 inches thickness is the most important aspect of this product, that's the distance between the steel bar and your shoulders; not 3.5 inches, what's only 3 inches is the diameter (circumference) of the pad closed, depends of the bar you use can be a little more wider. The hardness, feels soft in the outside (comfortable) but harder towards to the center(where the steel bar goes) I tried yesterday April 30th 2014 with 210 pounds total and never feel the bar, I look in a mirror aside and the bar never went down to my shoulders, like most. Strong velcro & backpack material, to give you an example. Wish I can upload my pictures to support my lines.Over all, the best deal you can have with item & price, and seriously, WORTH THE MONEY!

Could've been a little bigger
I bought this because my gym has a squat bar that is thicker than usual. This pad said it can fit Olympic bars 2" thick, but I found that it barely fits that size and doesn't close all the way. The material is a little rough if you ask me too. I am squatting over two plates now, so you can really feel it. When I opened the package the pad had some threading already starting coming out. Do yourself a favor and buy this kind of item in-store, at least you can return it the next day.

Easy on the Shoulders Doing Squats
I didn't like using the ragged out pads in the gym so I decided to buy this bar pad. This isn't the cheapest bar pad but I was looking for quality over price. These are well constructed and in better quality than you find in the gym. I like this pad because it has slightly more padding and the velcro holding it on the bar is top quality. I will enjoy using this product many years to come in the gym.

Great buy for the price.
This product performed as expected. My shoulders aren't tingling nearly as much post squat. And I can add more weight without adding more pain. It's not as soft as I expected but hey...it's $10.

Good quality, no problems
Not much to say about this item. It's a pad that wraps around the olympic bar and closes with velcro. Works as described and provides padding and relief when doing a squat workout. Removes easily when done.
