Review: Ourselves of good knowledge on the current refrigeration systems and F-Gas regulations - I found it to be a very good source of information on refrigeration systems and refrigeration cycles and F-Gas regulations. It keeps you up to date with new changes in the industry and reminds you of the awareness we all need to have while we are in the field. Nothing new but still needs to be in your back head all the time. We shouldn't be recharging old or new small systems with R404A for instance which has a Global Warming Potential, GWP of 3922 but many still do. R448A is therefore a recommended replacement azeotropic mixture, which is classified as a non-flammable replacement refrigerant with a 1387 GWP value. This 1387 GWP value for R448A can be compared to 3922 for R404A -- two times more. It was designed to serve as a replacement for R404A (and R22) in low and medium temperature refrigeration systems, such as supermarkets and vending machines. It is currently used across UK in many supermarkets' refrigeration systems and no major modifications required to existing refrigeration systems infrastructure or design as low side expansion pressures for both HT cabinets and LT cabinets are the same respectively in comparison to R404A. There's also a drop in refrigerant called R513A that came to my attention which currently serves as a perfect replacement for R134a refrigerant, with a far lower GWP of only 631 compared to 1430 that of R134a. This can be retrofitted directly from the bottle into an old small R134a system after refrigerant recovery, evacuation and change of a new driver. No change to the oil is required as the POE stays the same. Even if many refrigeration systems are still shipped with R134a refrigerant, its global Warming potential is still high at 1430 which means 1430 kg in comparison to 1 kg of CO2. The R513A refrigerant GWP is less than half of that at 631 unless of course someone decides to entirely migrate to hydrocarbon systems that use R1270 or R290 refrigerants whose GWP is a mere 3 in comparison. In so doing, displacement, compression and pressure-temperature relationships must be taken into account as well as expansion devices and F-Gas regulations governing such applications. At times buying new saves time. That's why we are a very consuming and wasteful economy. Furthermore, it has to be noted though that special health and safety measures must be taken when deploying hydrocarbons into refrigeration systems due to their flammability characteristics but these have now become almost a standard in all new small consumer and commercial systems. We can all remember why smoking was banned in public places several years ago and smokers had to be restricted to designated places. The main reason behind it was due to the health and safety issues smoking caused to other none smokers but also the increased use of hydrocarbons refrigerants that was expected to be deployed in coming years in new refrigeration systems and stationed in many places of work, and other public areas. So we are grateful today that those no smoking regulations where passed. Buy the book and read it as a reference book so that you can increase your knowledge about the refrigeration medium which is the fuel that absorbs latent heat during evaporation and rejects it during condensation and if you are new in the field and industry, it will provide you with a good source of basic knowledge in the refrigeration systems and industry. It won't give you everything, but it will give you a good knowledge start. I don't understand why they made some pictures too big though and the text is unnecessarily produced in a wide format instead of a simple book form. Overall, it is okay, I shouldn't complain so much.
