To the above excellent review I can only add that perhaps when reading this book, keeping in mind Kracht's quote from Virginia Woolf, "What is life? . . .Something not necessarily leading to a plot," might help you settle in and enjoy the language. I tried to read his earlier magnificent Imperium in German, but my German wasn't up to it. The translation of these complicated rolling sentences is miraculous.
