Meh. The rod earns the third star.
My standards are pretty high, but I'm used to using fairly high dollar Shimano and time tested Diawa gear. This one is nothing to get excited about. It's a basic spinning combo. I bought two for light tackle fishing the many lakes and streams we have here in the Central California foothills and mountains. One reel behaved as it should. Flip the bail, toss the bait, crank it back. Line spools well, no muss, no fuss. The second one, though, flip the bail, toss the bait, crank it ... the bail does not flip back into the correct position to reel in line. It only goes about 1/2 way, 1/2 of the time.We were fishing today in light/moderate wind with 4 lb line and this can be a hassle when the wind grabs your spooled line and keeps pulling it off the reel even though you think you've cranked over the bail. Since I'm good with tools and intricate mechanicals by trade, I'll probably pull it apart and re-lube/re-fit all of the moving parts. I'll give it another shot and update here later. It also made a few unusual sounds when reeling under a load, regardless of where the drag was set. Since this isn't Quantum's flagship, I doubt this set is held to the same QA standards as a reel costing twice as much as this combo. If you're looking for a decent ultra light rod, this one is just ok, but you may have to go through one or two to get a decent one. If you're looking for a high-end, no-hassle rig, look elsewhere, but be prepared to spend significantly more than +/- $40 that this combo costs. The rod behaves well. Not super-stiff, but firm enough to feel even the lightest tugs from inquisitive 6" rainbows. Eyelets and reel mounting are adequate and it has a comfortable cork handle.Longevity and durability remain to be seen.In the long run, if I can't iron out the kinks with the reel, I'll probably spend a few bucks more and replace just the reel vs going through the hassle of returning it and field testing other combos.$41 in March 2012.

Poor quality
Package had stuffing paper jammed all around rod and reel. The rod was made of very poor quality and had that weird coloring to it. The tip broke off right away and looked like it was made of plastic. The reel was decent so I just went out and bought another ultra-light rod and had myself a decent combo for trout. I would advise others to spend the extra money and buy a better combo elsewhere.

Gunning for trout?
A very nice quality rod and reel ultra light combo. Looking foward to landing many a trout or small mouth bass on this little beauty. If you are looking for a descent ultralight combo, you need one of these.

Field tested
Reel is not as smooth as I would expect from an ultra light type setup also bail has a thick action to it. Rod is nice though good for those tiny streams.
