Mysteries in History: World History: World History

Great Lesson Ideas
This material is an outstanding addition to your history/social studies/humanities class. It involves some wonderful mysteries that get the students excited and before they know it they are learning! My goal as a teacher has always been to have the students learn their skills and never realize that they are learning. Something you WANT to know is always going to stick better than something crammed down your throat. Using treasure, and unknowns excites the student's imagination. I was surprised by how many of my students picked up books on the topic after we had completed a mystery. Outstanding.

Not actually DBQ's, but great for inquiry learning!!!
We are doing a lot of DBQ's at my middle school and the way that Wendy Conklin has arranged these lessons is so engaging for the students. I have already been using the book she has on Ancient History and I'm excited to get into this one and the American History as well. I have done the lesson on Oetzi (the Alpine hunter), the one on how the alphabet came to be, the one on Tut's death, and will soon be doing the Terra Cotta army.
