Essential for the Home and First-Aid Kit (alcohol foam hand-cleaner)
A family member was in the ICU after openheart surgery several years ago, and that was the first time I ever saw this stuff. To get in to see our loved-one, we were required to clean our hands with either a sink & soap or this alcohol foam from a dispenser on the wall. I hate cosmeticky-smelling stuff with lingering perfumes, and I already knew that the local hospitals use a particular handsoap that really repulses me (made by the same company that makes this product, it turns out). So I tried the alcohol foam and was very pleasantly surprised. That's all it smells like: rubbing alcohol. Being a foam makes it more occlusive -- you can spread it over the hand's surface easily and before it can evaporate. They put something extra (also smell-free) in the "Alcare Plus" to keep it from drying out your skin, which repeated use of isopropyl alcohol would do, of course. I immediately went online and ordered a can of this stuff from a medical supply site because our family member would soon be coming home with a giant surgical seam and there was a puppy in the house, so hands needed to be cleaned well & frequently. I only used part of the can; the rest stayed in a box in the storage room till a few years later, when another family member had to go in for major surgery, and I was on-hand for homecare afterwards. I found my left-over can of alcohol foam, gratefully (it's much handier and faster than running to the sink for soap & water). This time, the homecare has been more extensive, time-wise. I must say my first can lasted MUCH longer than I had expected it to (so the cost turned out to be less an extravagance than I had thought). As soon as it started to run low, I went online and bought another. I got the bigger can (9 oz) again because it's a better buy and it keeps perfectly well. I intend to keep a can of this on-hand always. I wish it were sold in drug-stores for everyone's convenience, but I'm grateful it's readily available online. If it weren't for the recession(and my current unemployment), I would already have bought a case of it to pass out to my family & friends. I think the smaller size (5.4 oz) should be in everyone's first-aid kit. I see the gel-goo hand-sanitizers everywhere these days, offered to the public at every turn. I don't know how well they work, but they seem kind of gross to me somehow. Also, I figure if the hospitals are using this stuff (Alcare), it must be effective (and is probably a better choice).

Germ Free
Highly recommended from a Nurse practioner great to remove germs from the hands. Specially if you work with the public.

Different Use
My husband and I discovered this when he was in the hospital for pneumonia. He gets greasy hair quickly and was unable to shower or wash his hair. I have previously tried the products made for this and found them very unsatisfactory so I decided to try this product to freshen his head. I wet and wrung out a washcloth and squirted about a baseball sized dollup of the product in the middle, rubbed it vigorously on his head and then dried it with another dry washcloth. His hair was fresh and clean and we have been using this ever since whenever he needs to be freshened up between showers. It's good for hands too, lol.

Great Product
I purchased this to help gently remove tegaderm dressing from a picc line. I spray the foam on an adhesive dressing and wait a few minutes and its much easier to remove the dressing. This is the same foam hand cleaner my child's hospital uses to clean hands entering and leaving patient rooms. This was suggested to me by an RN for taking dressings off picc line or IV etc to help ease discomfort from sensitive skin being irritated or to help the adhesive come off easier without ripping hair off an arm. Before using this for the purpose of removing medical dressings ask your medical team before doing it, to be sure they feel it's appropriate. If you have a wound I would imagine this will sting quite a lot if you use it in that area. My hands tend to get irritated from frequent hand washing and it does sting them a bit if I get it on cracked skin.

best I have ever used.
I saw this at my doctors office and thought it was a cool product. I use a lot of alcohol swabs to take insulin shots and poke my fingers to test. Alcohol swabs dry the skin and cause other irritation. This product has 62% alcohol, pretty close to what an alcohol swab has, so I bought it as a replacement. I really like the fact that it has a moisturizing effect. Direct Care Store is not the cheapest, buy from other sellers.

Great product, saw this brand used in a hospital a few years ago and we have using every since.
Great sanitizer. We thought that if they were good enough for a major hospital to be using in their children's ward, when our grandson had pneumonia, they would be worth switching to. Have used them for about 4-years and they seem to work. Not sticky and really not much residue afterwards!
